Great DIY Book
I was always under the impression that learning HTML was difficult and you had to be a computer programer to even begin to understand the code until I picked up this book. I examined this particular book and compared it to a famous brand DIY book. This HTML, XHTML & CSS book was easier to understand and straight to the point. I created my website using a Yahoo template because I figured all I had to do was type information in the desiginated boxes. I found out that's all I could do, was type. I couldn't bold, center, underline, or create links with this particular template, program, or whatever you want to call it, without knowing HTML. This book saved the day for me. I highly recommend it.

A guide for everyone!
HTML, XHTML, and CSS can be very confusing concepts for the average Joe; Well not anymore! Elizabeth Castro does a fantastic job of explaining concepts in a way that is easy to comprehend, in addition with an abundance of illustrations. I recommend this book for beginners and individuals that would like to expand their general knowledge on this up-and-coming craze.

A must have for any Java Servlet or Web developer
If you only have one book for your HTML and CSS reference, this is the one to have. I have thie one and the 4th edition, which gives a little more detail on CGI.<BR/><BR/>This is a technical book packed with information, but if you are just curious about the web, start here. Load up Tomcat 5.5 and have some fun.

Great Books
Years ago when I first got into HTML I purchased many books that almost made it impossible to learn until I ran into HTML by Elizabeth Castro. Since then when I wanted to learn something new I always purchased her books or books from Peachpit Press because they publish books that are easy to read and learn. Buy one of their books and you also will look to Peachpit for easy to learn books.

Then this book helps you take off !! Very well done. The text discusses the solution or the how-tos and the code is near by so one can see how it's done in HTML code. -

not a good starter book
As a total beginner, I found this book hard to follow. It lead my path of discouragement and confusion. If you know nothing, and are looking for a starter book, it's not the right pick.

I like it. It's nice.
I thought that this book really does a great job at giving the reader a good basic knowledge of the technologies mentioned in the title. I was already pretty familiar with (X)HTML and CSS, and I got this book for a reference and to make sure I had the basics down pat. I did learn a lot from reading this book, and it was very helpful.

Cutting-Edge Reference
This book was a requirement for my Web Design 1 class and studied it from cover to cover. I had a little HTML coding experience, but needed a solid understanding of web design. The first 3 to 4 chapters are very helpful, but after that, if you are not familiar with XHTML language and CSS, it can be difficult to follow. The author's approach to CSS was confusing to me. Most of the examples shown in the book are disappointingly NOT step-by-step. It's more like 'look and guess what this is' - and is necessary to re-read several times over to understand. The author did a good job covering all the 'cutting-edge' updates for XHTML in a timely manner. This book is a good reference. Hopefully her next edition will be more polished.
