My personal favorite
Although it is how it all began i would start from the first book only because they dont define the alien races in the later books. Gives more importance to side characters such as jenkins and johnson. If you just finished ghosts of onyx, though, dont expect to learn anything about where halsey and the spartans end up at the end. Really really good book though. I kind of want to skip cole protocol and start the forerunners saga because of this book ;) (spoiler?)

Only if you have played Halo......
It is a good book concerning how the Human-Covenant war started. However, the book would make no sense to someone who hasn't played the Halo games and has at least a little knowledge of the storyline. Highly reccomended.

Great Addition to Halo Story
I've played the games, and I've read the other books, and I've always wondered "who started it"??? And this book answers that question, and other questions about the Halo past and what happened in the farm planet of Harvest. The point of view also changes, so you don't just see the human side, but also the Covenant side so that you can see the different ways they think and how easy it was for fighting to start. If your bored and have some knowledge of what Halo is then I suggest you get the book and read, has you'll be hooked on and won't want to put it down. It's also a good way to show that we better be prepared for Fist Contact.

A good strong read
This book was pretty exciting from the start. I enjoyed the Development of the main and supporting characters. Having read other Halo books before this I found it very interesting to go back and see how everything began. Not only did I get to learn the story of harvest and first contact but I received a good glimpse into the inner workings of the interspecies conglomeration that is the Covenant. All in all a good strong reading experience and I would definitely recommend this book rather your new to the Halo series or just looking for a good book to continue the saga.
Thanks for reading this review and I hope it helped. Remember reading is a privilege so take advantage of it.0 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

Exciting Start to the Halo Universe
It was great to finally get to see how the humans and the covenant met. And why there is an extermination notice on the humans. The book was good, and set way before Master Chief's time, but the main character is still very good at kicking ass!
