This trilogy should not be passed up by any Halo fan, any sci-fi fan, or any reader in search of a good, thrilling read. Regardless if you have played the games or share an affinity for this story like so many, this trilogy is just simply a great investment of money for those wanting a great world to "live" in for a short while. Let your imagination thrive and read these well-written stories.

Great books!
Each book brings you deeper and deeper into a futuristic war-torn world that captures the perfect sci-fi setting. If your into the halo games or any sci-fi books then this is the book for you. It has everything; great heroes, enemies, plot-lines, and characters. Taking from the best selling video game and showing the master chief before, during, and after the timeline of the game. This is a must read for sci-fi and halo fans alike, whether it be for serious reading or something to do on a rainy day it will not dissapiont.

Amazing
Absolutely, undeniably my favorite book series, i loved the games, and my friends got me this as a joke, because i thought buying the books would be a cheap knock off. The joke was on them when i liked it.

halo is a great book
when i first started reading the halo books it was in 2002. it was amazinging and it went exactly the way the game went and answered many of my questions. every day after school i would read the book and i was done within 2 days. it was full of action and in more depth than the game itself. the halo books are a great choice.

BEST BOOKS EVER!!! LoL
My favorite book would have to be ghosts of onyx. I mean Spartan 117 is mentioned maybe 3 or 4 times and that sucks, but Spartans IIIs. Awesome.I still need to read Contact Harvest though.*sigh* Colonel Acerson is a pain but a needed one. He put one of the spartans 'Kirk' out of commision deadlyingly. Oh well read on fellow troopers:'

Great Companion Book
These books are great if you want to know more of the Halo story. As the halo books are not all by the same author, the writing style is not the best, but they tell a good story, and "The Flood" is an excelent recap of the first halo game. The second and third games do not have books associated with them. However, the new Halo game which the beta is available for (Halo Reach) will probably be associated with "The Fall of Reach".

Can't get a better deal than this
In a few words: The Halo trilogy boxed set is a great read not just for fans of the Halo games but sci fi readers in general.

Of course before I got this I saw a few reader reviews before picking up a copy and must agree that they were very helpful in helping me make my decision.
I'll start with the very book that prompted me to drop this review, which is THE FALL OF REACH. The very first Halo book I read was the GHOSTS OF ONYX by ERIC NYLUND. I just have to agree with majority of the people about Mr. Nylund knowing how to get the job done when it comes to Halo fiction.
What the FALL OF REACH does for anyone who's played the Halo games, is it helps you relate better with the characters to the point that they're no longer cardboard cut outs like most video game characters usually are. Starting with the back story on Captain Keyes which I loved very much to what actually makes the Spartans tick.
In the book you get to see the harsh military lives the Spartans were put through even as little kids. Mr. Nylund guides you step by step through the Spartan Program and how these super soldiers were formed mentally, physically, and biologically. To the point that when you're done reading the book, you just want to slot in a Halo game and play it all over again.
All in all, if you don't play games but are a fan of good science fiction, be careful reading the books in this Halo boxed set, it might just convert you into a full time gamer.
As for HALO THE FLOOD. by William C. Dietz. I don't know why a lot of people wrote the book of as being not up to par. In fact I just finished the FLOOD tonight and think it's equally a great read. Why I think a lot of people did not feel this book as much as the others is because it's actually based on one of the games, and apart from this, Mr. william did not do much work in trying to tell the games story from another point of view, so basically it was more of a walk through of the game rather than a different experience.A thing I suspect may have been instructions from the creators of the fiction.
For people who have not played the first Halo game, this book will be a reasonably good read. But if you've played the game, you'll get bored in several sections, for the simple fact that you know it all. Personally I think Mr. William is a very good writer but he just wrote the book in the wrong way, by duplicating the game almost step by step. But I really enjoyed characters like Mc'kay.
I just always wanted to see what was happening with her. Also Zamamee, an Elite that was on a mission to destroy the Master Chief. If for nothing else I enjoyed HALO THE FLOOD for sake of these two well thought out characters.
Well guess what? I'm currently on HALO THE FIRST STRIKE but if the book is half as good as THE FALL OF REACH or as good as THE FLOOD, then you haven't put your money in the wrong place.
As a Halo fan these books have made me love the fiction even more. I actually also have HALO EVOLUTIONS waiting for me when I'm done with FIRST STRIKE. Not as if I've not stolen a read of one or two of the mouth watering short stories already, anyway, and so far I've been having a blast.
I also recommend GHOSTS OF ONYX and HALO EVOLUTIONS. I'm yet to check out the rest anyway. cheers. -
this book rocks
this is the best set of books any one could have i mean there is action dramatic story line and best ever its about halo

when you here "book based of of a video game" you think this will likely be bad.But the first three books in the halo noval series where amazing,i could'nt put them down.i found myself reading every spare second i could.

The first book,Fall Of Reach, is a prequale the the firts game and gives alot of interesting things such the origin of series protagonist:Master Chief.
Book 2,The Flood, is the novalization of the origanal Halo:combat evolved and is of great interest to any who enjoyed the first game or anyone who simply likes action books.
the third and last book in the box set,First Strike,is the bridge between Halo:CE and the vastly popular Halo 2,with lots of questions answered, but if you are looking for spoilars look elsewhere or get this great series.I highly recomend it to anyone who likes sci-fi,military,action or game based books and not just diehard fans of the games. -
i love this book
I went to the public libray and I saw the books and I loved the game so I rented the book and I loved the flood the best it was so excited I finshed them in one day but I only read -the flood-the fall of the reach and the frist strike-I want to get them all................HaLo RoCkS!!!!

THE BEST BOOKS EVER
When i first read the 'Fall of reach' i thought to myself ' wow, u don't run across a book like this ever day'. i played the game based from the books, i loved those two. i have read and finished all 5 of the halo books. and i have to say, each books got better and better. my favorite would have to be ' first Strike' where he figures out the he no longer is the ' last spartan' and he returns to reach, to aid his fellow team mates. i hope that there will be more halo books to come. i can't wait to pick up another.

The Greatest Books I have Ever Read
Eric Nylund and William Dietz did a great job in putting non-stop action in every page. I could not put these books down, I read these books during every second of my free time.

A reviewer
I loved the halo games and still do, so when i saw this book in my teachers bookshelf i nabbed it. i read it so often the teacher let me have it. It has a very deep storyline. many people including me have read sci fi books that suck, or are poorly put together. halo was and isnt this way at all. very engaging and good action!!! And i am not saying this as a fan i really like resident evil but the books were repetitive and i was highly dissapointed with how the author used the same expretions time and time again. not so in the halo series!!!

great books based off of great games
when i first played halo:combat evolved i was amazed and fell in love with the game but not just the gameplay i was more amazed with the story these books add and fill in the gaps of the story my personal favorite story out of the three is the fall of reach where it really goes into detail about the struggle these children go through to become hardened soldiers of the UNSC anyone who is a fan of halo should read these books.

halo: the next great saga
i have read all three of these books, as well as beaten both games multiple times, and I must say Halo is THE next sci-fi fantasy saga. Once the movie comes out, it will be up there with The Lord of The Rings and Star Wars. These books fill in all of the background information on the Covenant War, Spartan 117, the first Halo, and the intermission between Halo and Halo 2. Even if you have not played the epic Xbox games, even if you are 50 years old, if you enjoy science fiction you will love these books. It fills in backround info so if you haven't played the game you will still understand the plot. The Halo saga has got to have the best storyline since the old Star Wars movies or Lord of The Rings. Recommended for anyone into science fiction.
