    Different...But Love It!!

The cd is great! Its songs are unique, interesting, and easy to listen to. This cd is a little less mainstream than her first (called Hello). Regardless of whether you like her brother's book, the cd is great. I personally liked her brother's book, and the cd made the book more enjoyable....but that's just me :) Definitely listen to the samples on this site and see for yourself. Enjoy.

Great CD when disassociated with "House of Leaves"

Good melodies and arrangements. The performances and production are good, though at times a bit vanilla. On it's own its a great CD that many will not be disappointed with. The thing that bothers me most is the interpretation of the CDs inspiration. The novel "House of Leaves," by Poe's brother Mark Z. Danielewski, is creepy, twisted, dark, deep, and layered. Poe's songs that attempt to tell the story are poppy, light, and one-dimensional. The jazzy little riffs and upbeat melodies accompanying lyrics like "splintered coffin" just don't fit. I think she just doesn't get it. Such a book would be better represented by artists like Swans ("Great Annihilator", or "White Light from the Mouth of Infinity"), and not someone that sounds like Sheryl Crow.
