Good Read, but Make Sure You've Read All the Books in the Series First!
I would love to see Purnhagen flesh out these novellas into full novels, focusing on more details and adding more to the storyline, because there is so much she could do with it all. However, I also like having these novellas because they give me something to sink my teeth into while I wait for the next novel in the series, so I guess I'm a little torn.
Haunting the Night is a great story directly connected to events from One Hundred Candles. I suggest everyone read it, and the other books in the series, but be forewarned, you do need to read the whole series in order to understand what is happening in Haunting the Night. Three stars.

Good Read, but Make Sure You've Read All the Books in the Series First!
I love the Past Midnight series! Of course, I went about it all wrong and read the second novel, One Hundred Candles, first. Yet, I thought it was so good that I went back and read the first novel, Past Midnight (my favorite so far), and then the short novella, Raising the Dead. I do love Purnhagen's writing, but I am finding a trend with these novellas. Although slightly removed from the main storyline and being too short for a complete novel, I've found that I don't care for these novellas as much as I do the actual books in the series. While these short novellas, especially Haunting the Night, give the reader more insider information pertaining to the characters, I feel like they are a little forced and not as well written as the actual novels.

Haunted
What a great story. I didn't expect the ending, took me by surprise, but it was the perfect ending. This is the first book I've ever read by this author, but it definitly won't be the last. Read it and be prepared to be entertained.

Its alright
It is confusing at times and very short. It is a part of a series. So you will have no clue exactly how her mother ends up in the hospital. I got stuck paying the 2.99 but I guess thats what i get for not paying attention. Something to past the time but not worth looking for the other books to understand the hows and whens.

Not Bad
This short story was actually pretty good, I just wish it had been developed more and turned into a full novel. Unfortunately it just left me wanting something more.

I started this novel on Thursday July 10th 2012.
Avery and Charlotte were going to their prom. But Avery was going to go anyways without Charlotte. Avery was on the prom committee. Dante didn't like being home alone when her father was working at the hospital. Avery had surgery on her hand. She was doing her exams oral instead of using her hand.. The teacher were nice about it. Mills and Charlotte's mother was in the hospital and her monitor was beeping faster. The nurses and her doctor cam to her mom's room also. Her mother was trying now medications that is what happened. Noah and Charlotte were dating each other. She was going to Charlston to see her sister Annelise the next day. The doctor had called and they had to go back to the hospital because her mother had another relapsed. So Annelise picked her up at the hospital the next day. The shadow was following her even in Charlston when she visited her sister. I enjoyed this novel. ShelleyMA -

An emotionally charged read!
Haunting the Night is available only online, a novella that fits between the previous full-length novel One Hundred Candles and the next (and last) full-length novel Beyond the Grave. Novella or not, this has been my favorite of the series. Once again, Purnhagan brilliantly blends the paranormal with the mundane, the latter almost the forefront of this particular story. This book was extremely emotionally charged, making me cry at times right along with the characters. There was also a considerably darker tone to this story, very much in keeping with the series and its progression. The characters really drive the plot and are so well-developed that sometimes you get completely lost in their lives and almost forget it's fiction!

While any of these novels or novellas could be read alone, they make for a much fuller story line when read from the beginning. Next up is Beyond the Grave, the final story in this amazing series! -

Good
It was good, I just really wished it was developed more into a full novel. Sometimes a novella can be a copout.

Pretty amazing.
What a cute short read! It has 57 pages, but it was really cute and adorable, even though there were some things i didn't know where they came from.

This was a great short story. While at first it seemed a little tricky to get in to, you soon begin to like it and enjoy it more.
