    A reviewer

This book was a good read that focused on the issues that African American women have during pregnancy. I liked that it gave practicle information relevant to me. I use this book as a reference for my Childbirth Education Classes, which I teach from an African Centered perspective.

A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR THE PREGNANT BLACK WOMAN!!!

When I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I went in search of a book that would help me along, give me information, and help me to prepare for pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and parenting. This book was awesome. Most of the books I found were either generalized or not written with women of color in mind. This book was hard for me to find at my local book store. But worth the effort to find. I've recommended it to friends, family members, and coworkers. This book offered information on hypertension, sickle cell, healthy eating, tips to ease discomforts during pregnancy and labor, pregnancy testing, and much much more.

Inspiring Book for the faint of heart

I was so very happy to receive this book from a friend when I found out I was unexpectedly pregnant. I felt so alone and was scared beyond belief and had little and/or experience with childrearing and even less knowledge and experience with the process of giving birth. This book contains a lot of matter of fact information geared toward African American women from every walk of life and the many and varied experiences we've had giving birth and raising countless generations. Insights into childbearing and rearing customs in this country and beyond are invaluable. The father-to-be is not left out either. Section on fatherhood reads well and gives a lot of information and insight with our being preachy. A great guide for dads and moms alike. This book has helped take the edge of my loneliness and fear. A great guide and an excellent gift.
