Oooh I love a good romantic suspense and Hell or High Water is just that! Even better, it is the beginning of a new series. Woot! Jerrie Alexander sets up the storyline, introduces her characters ~ which we quickly fall in love with ~ and keeps the suspense going and the plot moving at full tilt, all while wrapping it up in a hot and satisfying love story. Sound good? Oh yeah!

The heroine Kay works for CPS in Dallas (which happens to be my hometown *grin*) and I cannot think of many more heart-wrenching jobs. In college, she knew Nate Wolfe along with Marcus, Tyrell and Jake. They were a tight knit group and heat-o-plenty had existed between Kay and Nate. They each went their separate ways until they ran into one another as Kay tries to escape from some kidnappers and Nate steps in to save her. Nate's background as a Navy SEAL makes him the perfect bodyguard and whether Kay wants to admit it or not, sparks still fly between them. Once another urgent situation occurs and requires them to spend even more time together, Kay's resolve crumbles and the romance is on!

This is a romance that had crumbled in the past due to both party's immaturity, something they both recognize and while the past is a factor, the author spent just enough time on it so that it reinforced rather than taking away from the love story in the present. I loved their fiery and snarky interaction and enjoyed watching them work through problems a any real couple has to. Their intimacy was both appropriate and passionate, leaving me needing more than a fan or cold shower. ;)

This is a book intended for readers over 18 due to subject matter, language and sexual content. If you are an adult though, don't let that stop you for one minute! I felt those elements were all within the appropriate context of the characters and story. The story concludes nicely with a HEA yet left me excited for the other books to come. So, if you want a well-written, exciting suspense-filled romance, I would not hesitate to recommend Hell or High Water... I might just have to read it again!
