A Book for Women Who Have Experienced a Bit of Life

What a joy to read a book written by an intelligent woman. You journey with her as she describes the love of her life and losing him. As she grapples with this loss, you also visit her children and glimpse this family's ability to continue to love and move forward. Her descriptions of the woods and the men and women who work hard to keep all creatures safe make me want to meet her co-workers and encourage my son-in-law to pursue his dream of becoming a Maine Game Warden. The book offers a clever image on the cover. I feel as though I might call up Kate and invite her over for a cup of tea, some advice, and a laugh or two. With elevated diction, grace, and a great deal of humor, Braestrup portrays the journey of living a full life with an open heart and soul. Definitely a book you'll want to share with the women in your circle.

    Interesting and Uplifting Read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It demonstrated the resilience of the human spirit in the face of tragedy and sadness. Also quite humorous throughout. Highly recommend it!

    I'm still not sure . . .

When I first began this book - I was totally into it and relating and enjoying - at some point, though, I began wondering was this truly just a book about her experiences or was there a message? I still haven't finished, although I only have a chapter left to read, and so far . . . haven't decided on the answer to my question - I bought the book more for "a message" about dealing with the loss of my grandmother and haven't discovered "my message" yet - However, I did enjoy the stories and the author.

    Interesting book!

As a youth pastor and youth pastor's wife I was interested to see how the author stepped into her husband's shoes and how she chaplained those around her who saw so many difficult situations. It was an enlightening and heartwarming story. I've recommended this book to others already. It's a good, quick, touching read.

    more from this reviewer

These are the kind of heros we need to hear about and be our examples.

A very candid look at a strong woman who rises up in the face of personal tragedy. Ms. Braestrup lets us view her life intimately and also educates us on many facets of Game Wardens. An enlightening book and a helpful guide to moving on after losing a loved one.

    A Wonderful Book

I was a religously observant Jewish child who left my faith by the wayside. Until I read Kate's marvelous book. Her faith brought me back to mine. I can't say when or why, it just happened as I read her memoir of her journey of faith.
