    Great Read!

I skipped this book because of a previous poor review but after finishing the other 7 books and loving them I went back and got this 2nd book. Great story and if your like me and read entire series this book helps move important characters into the proper evolution of the series. Don't miss it!

    Great!!

WOW!! I loved this book. Her debut book, THIRTY NIGHTS, was awesome, but I think this book really shows Mayhue¿s range. Whether writing time travel or contemporary, Mayhue really knows how to write a compelling, un-put-down-able romance. You can find summaries elsewhere, so I¿ll dive into how this book rocked. I really loved the fabulous world she built in this book 'intertwining a mature faerie culture into modern times' and the hints of future books to come. I also loved the depth of character she infused in both her hero and heroine and the twist she put on the older woman/younger man plot¿you¿ll have to read it to find out what I mean. And then there is the amazing supporting cast. I can¿t wait for some of their stories. This was definitely a keeper for me I¿m eagerly awaiting her next novel.

    FASCINATING!!!

Sara Douglas a romance novelist come to Scotland hoping to overcome her writer's block and come to terms with her special ability to sense the emotions of everyone she touches.

Ian McCullough is a half-mortal Fae and a Guardian for more then six hundred years.

When Ian meets Sara, he can literally "see her soul" looking out at him.

The romance and sensual undertones kept this romance story snapping. Loved the interaction with the other Faeries and Ian's well meaning friends and relatives.

Future novels with Dallyn and Ramos are promising and highly recommended. Thanks Melissa Mayhue for writing a lovely book. When I finished it today, I thought "can't wait for the next one".

    excellent romantic fantasy

Half faerie - half human Ian McCullough is a guardian who has vigilantly watched the portal to the Fountain of Souls for six hundred years to insure mortals remain safe from malevolent soulless beings. However lately he and his guardian peers fear the evil Nuadians are planning an assault on the mortal plane. He willingly would risk his life to perform his protector duty.--- Popular romance author Sarah Douglas moves into the cottage next door to Ian¿s abode she hopes Scotland inspires her tocreate her next novel as she struggles with writing it. She contains faerie blood that if she allowed it would enable her to be a 'sensor', a rare person who can judge people's emotions. Ian wants to keep Sarah, but to do so he must keep her in the dark re her skill but without her ability, the Nuadians might just succeed.------------- The key to this excellent romantic fantasy is the belief that the various species and their innate skills seem genuine. Ian and Sarah are strong protagonists as they fall in love he must make the most difficult decision of his life to keep her out of harm¿s way vs. risking danger to many. Subgenre fans will enjoy Melissa Mayhue¿s marvelous magic as the hero must decide between love and duty.------------- Harriet Klausner

    Scotland + Time-Travel = Good Fun

SARAH DOUGLAS is a successful thirty-eight year old romance novelist with big problems. She's come to Scotland on a three month working vacation hoping to recapture her muse - who's deserted her - and resolve the issue of her strange 'feelings' - the ones which allow her to sense the emotions of everyone she touches.

From the moment she arrives, however, her problems only intensify. She's being stalked, but by whom? Is he real or only a figment of her imagination? What about the darkly handsome owner of the cottage she's leasing? How is she ever going to deal with her growing attraction to a man ten years her junior? She knows from bitter experience men - particularly men who look like Ian - aren't interested in women like her.

IAN MCCULLOUGH is neck-deep in troubles of his own. As a half-mortal descendent of Faeries, he's a Guardian, sworn to protect both the mortals of this world and the Portals leading to the Faerie Realm. After six hundred years, he's confident he knows what to expect in just about every situation and exactly how to handle it. But he never counted on a woman like Sarah showing up in his life; a woman who intrigues and charms him. A woman who turns out to be of Faerie descent herself, although she has no idea of her heritage and no belief in any Otherworld beings.

When he's assigned to protect her, Ian finds the job is tougher than he could possibly have imagined. Oh, he can handle the stalker and the ex-husband and even the renegade Faeries trying to kidnap her for their own purpose. It's falling in love and forsaking his status as Guardian, a position he swore to honor at his father's deathbed, he's having trouble with.

Both Sarah and Ian struggle to battle the demons of self-doubt and their individual pasts. In the process they learn that healing will take the strongest magic of all, the true love that occurs only between two souls fated to be together.

Sarah escapes to Scotland to stimulate her muse and get back into writing her books, she chooses to ignore the fact that something else is drawing her there as well. Ian doesn't have the time to be bothered being babysitter to the new "American" arrival at his friend's summer cottage, but upon their first meeting - things drastically change. Now Ian is torn between duty and love while Sarah must make some startling acceptances herself before the Fairy portal is revealed and all ciaos ensues.

I like this series! It's easy to read, fun and sassy, plus the characters are enjoyable overall. Ian and Sarah were very realistic and their relationship together just kept getting better and better. The story wasn't cheesy and their romance didn't feel rushed and/or pushed as many similar tales can be. Don't expect a lot of in-depth story development, but if you want something to read after a long day at work - this is a great series to get into. The author opened up the character field a lot within Highland Guardian, so many of the future books in the series can really go all over the place now - which excites me since Soul of the Highlander is up next in my TBR pile. Plus, it was nice to get a glimpse of Cate and Conner from the first book in the series.

Likes: Yayy! Scotland - I'm all about books set in Scotland since my trip there is in 42 days and counting . . .

Dislikes: The whole plot build up toward the end kind of fizzled out for me and wasn't as climatic as I would have liked. Plus, I'm noticing a similar trait within the female cha

    A great series

If you love time travel and Scottish romance, this is a great series to read. The second book kicks off just as good as the first, and Mayhue continues to write and develop her characters and storylines wonderfully. I love how she combines the paranormal legends with modern day in this book. A great read.

    Not what I expected....

This book was really lacking compared to the first book. I kept telling myself it will get better but I lost interest quickly. Usually I read thru a book like this in a day, because the story is so good I can't put it down like the first one. But it took me almost 4 days to read. It was not until Sarah met the characters from the first book that this story became interesting. I finished the book but I would not return to read again. I'm hoping the third book will be better....

    SIMPLY AWESOME!!!

As usual I found myself immersed in another story of wonderful desire and intrigue. My favorite author, and still keeping me wanting more. The faerie world is my penchant kept satisfied as only Miss Mayhue can deliver. The sex and romance is pitted against the resposiblities of duty and risk. And as always, the characters make the story come alive. Great fun to read. And now I am so looking forward to what hints have lead to more...

    really great read

i read her first book which was great but this one i just could not put down. I like how she tide it with the first book 30 nights with a highland husband i can't wait to see how she ties the rest of her books and the plot or plan that polo has in connection with his tree daughter( have to read the 1st one to understand about the mark and the blood line). The Sex part was good but the story line is what draws you in. and it had me laughing my pants of.
