BUY THIS BOOK; available at fine bookstores everywhere...
Christopher Hitchens is without a doubt one of the greatest writers of modern times, and this book reveals the personal details about his life that help to put his work into perspective. Here you will learn about his parents, his youth spent at boarding school and Oxford, and his activities as a young Socialist who traveled to Cuba and took part in various protests and factory-leafletings; all of this without veering down the road of sentimentality. He is basically reporting on his own life, in classic Hitchens style. If you ever wanted to know the details behind some of his biggest controversies, they can be found here also. His reasoning is well laid out for us to evaluate.
This is really the most fascinating memoir I have ever read. Hitchens is an incredible person with an incredible story to tell. I highly recommend this book.

First of all, don't be discouraged by the fact that this is a memoir. I know when you mention "memoir" to some people, they immediately think of an inessential fluff piece written by Susan Lucci. Hitch-22 is a memoir in its truest sense, filled with fascinating details and reflections of the author.

Wonderful read
Lively, honest and as always Christopher Hitchens is passionate and eloquent. Few authors have the ability to make me laugh and send me to the dictionary quite as often as the inestimable Mr. H.

wow
While I don't believe some things Mr Hitchens says, I do believe in his right to say those things. I find him, and this book, fascinating!

A must read.
The last great writing Christopher Hitchens wrote before he passed away. The man was funny, acerbic and most of all smart. Sometimes you could diaagree with him but he was always an exciting read. A must have.

Don't bother
I heard tell that this author was funny. I had heard his name bandied about by the intelligentsia. As I knew nothing about his life, I decided to start with this book. Perhaps I should have chosen another book. It is decidedly NOT humorous. The only other "player" I ever heard of that Hitchens mentions is Martin Amis. I have not finished it and probably will not finish it. Sadly disappointing given the number of rave reviews it received.
