    More than adding flies

This product is packaged well, almost convinces you that you can go home, plant your trap, watch it grow and just add flies! I bought this because I was curious to see what it was like to raise VFT's from seeds (I already have 4 I purchased grown).

First off, there's about 3 weeks of seed preparation before you can plant. Sure, after an 8-hour ice water soak you just refridgerate them for 3 weeks (which really, it's easy), but...

The kit comes with a TERRA COTTA planting dish! Terra cotta/clay pots can kill your VFT before it even grows because the clay will hold in minerals and salts which are toxic to your VFT.

However, unlike the VFT's at the supermarket, this does come with more detailed instructions and a little background on the plant. It's worth buying just for the little book if you want to grow VFT's and want a little more information on them. I found it helpful. If you also DO wish to take on the challenge of growing a VFT from seed, I recommend buying a plastic planter, a water tray, and peat moss and a little sand...don't use the terra cotta planting dish.

    Performing Surgery Would be Simpler.

The headline I think says it all. Unless you plan to take off a week of work to devote your time to this project steer clear! Frustrating for adults - impossible for kids. I would not recommend this project.

    What A Disappointment

I bought this for my son. He was very excited about it. Unfortunately, even though we followed all the directions, nothing grew. It was a waste of money. Buy one from your local home improvement store already growing and buy a book about the plant.
