The Only Low Point is the Cover

This book is a thrilling continuation of an enthralling story. PC Hodgell creates a detailed and entertaining world rivaled only in imagination by Steven Brust. Everything from attempted murder, the value of family & romantic love, to a fun romp from place to place. The absurd mixes with the wonderful in yet again another adventure with the hectic, smart, beautiful, and apologetic Jame.

    Jame it outdoes herself again!

For someone who doesn't seem to fit, Jame is suddenly important nearly everywhere at once! I love how Hodgell once again builds on a new and unique landscape to take a girl who wants to fit in and makes her stand out. The Kencyrath have a bumpy future where Jame is involved but with the power of Honor and the right people in charge, any future is possible! Thanks for a fantastic read! When's the next one?

    Exciting continuation of the storyline

As always, Pat does not disappoint. Although a bit slower paced for the first 75% of the book, the last 25% is a fast and furious ride (literally!). I have the usual complaints about the cover art having almost nothing to do with the story (Jame with a knife? Is she wearing jewelry? Why is there cleavage when she is frequently mistaken for her brother?). This book would be a great re-introduction to the saga, as much of the prior history and events are mentioned for those who do not obsessively re-read the previous books. This series is wildly underrated and deserves much more exposure than it has. Lost fans in particular should enjoy the moral ambiguity and difficult choices facing the characters. Pat has created a convoluted and dense mythology without the bloat of a 500+ page novel, her writing is as lean and spare as a Knorth, and she does not hesitate to surprise or shock us. I very eagerly await the next book!
