    Altoona's Horseshoe Curve In Pictures

"Horseshoe Curve" is another in a series of "Images of Rail" books published by Arcadia Publishing. You will most likely find them on the books of local interest table at your local book store. The book is written by local auther David W. Seidel, who just happens to be a photographer and an Altoona historian. "Horseshoe Curve" showcases many images from the author's extensive collection as well as photos from the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum and other collections.

"Horseshoe Curve" is divided into seven chapters that cover the different railroads that owned and traversed the curve. Each image (there are generally two images per page) has a caption consisting of several sentences that add perspective to the photographs. I found the author's comments interesting, and even though I am a native and quite familiar with the curve, there were many historical and local-interest facts that I was unaware of.

This small book would make a great gift for the rail buff or historian interested in this mighty engineering marvel and the history that is attached to it. The book can be browsed leisurely or read from cover-to-cover, as one desires. "Horseshoe Curve" is very reasonably priced and a pleasant diversion--highly recommended!

Going to get herbs? Awesome! I can't really leave camp without a cat falling over dead while I'm out." She said, it kinda annoyed her at times. She could hardly remeber the last time to went out in the woods when she wasn't moving to a different camp.
