Hostage Three by Nick Lake is a very interesting book and in my opinion, think that other people should take the time to read it. This book is about a rebellious daughter named Amy who lives with a multi millionaire father and step mom who try to sail around the world, but end up getting hijacked by somali pirates. This book is filled with action and drama and leaves you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. The beginning of the events starts when Amy's father decides to actually pursue his plan and purchases a $30 million dollar yacht to explore the world in and was going to make Amy tag along. An example of action was when the pirates were actually pursuing the yacht and came up close so there plan was to use hose guns so they were not able to climb aboard but in all their luck there was a knot in the rope so the pirates climbed aboard. When they were aboard they fired a few rounds and ended up injuring a crew member named tony. What anyone would never think would happen ended up happening. Amy started to fall for a pirate named Farouz. When Farouz ends up getting his brother free, they kiss and that was the last she ever saw of him. She said he was not like the rest, he was gentler and more reasonable. He was the one to always assure everyone that he wasn't going to hurt them. In the end, no one ended up getting hurt which i found shocking. The point of view was first person through the main character Amy. First person view was the most effective because it was nice to know all of her thoughts and feelings, It made it almost like it could have been happening to you. Amy was the most interesting character because she has to cope with the loss of her mother and is forced to unwilling go on a trip around the world but is then hijacked by pirates and even ends up falling for one of them, thats a lot of mixed emotion and events to happen to someone! I ended up picking this book because i had watched the movie Captain Phillips. The pirates ended up being quite similar because the main character Muse and Farouz seem to be similar. There both the kinder ones of the group that are more knowledgeable and do not want to harm anyone. “I wont hurt you” (Lake 105) said by Farouz was my favorite quote because i was surprised how such violent people who are hijacking a private yacht could claim that they won't hurt you but in the end they ended up keeping that promise. This also made me learn that they were just doing this because there fishing business had been pushed out by commercial white men and they were only doing this to make money and support their families. You can't always judge people by their actions because at heart they can be different. I would give this book 5/5 stars.
