A Foreigner In Sicily
I have been blessed to have met Ms. Phelps at her home in Taormina after reading this book. I started reading it before I moved to Sicily & the minute I finished I asked a local sicilian friend to find her. We sat in the same rooms pictured in the book. She describes the people she met here & her experiences as a foreigner living here back in the 40's to modern day . I found reading her book & being in towns she had mentioned in the book that not much of the heart of these villages had changed, nor the people. Ms.Phelps lived an awfully eccentric life here & had some very interesting guest at her home. You can't help but laugh at her experiences with the Sicilians & her guest. I loved it.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

ENJOYABLE TALE OF A WOMAN'S LOVE FOR HER HOME
Daphne Phelps adventures in restoring and maintaining her mountain home in Sicily make for good reading. Bequeathed a house clinging to a mountainside in a remote Sicily at that time, Phelps struggled to know her neighbors and keep her inheritance going. Visitors such as Tennesse Williams livened up the scene over the years as well as a long friendship with a local don. A small book that asks you to grab a long, cool drink and relax for an afternoon and evening of delightful entertainment. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
