    Horribly written

I was so disappointed in the strange
Way this was written. It was like one long
Run-On sentence from the point of view
Of the child. I lost interest after 25 pages
Or so. It was a complete waste of money.
    I regret buying it.

    Great

As Someone with a disability, I really related to this book.

    I Also Recommend:

highly recommended---in the mood of "Glass Castle"

Highly recommended book, especially for readers who appreciate memoirs of rising above colorfully corrosive family background and then fighting against passivity in adult life. If you liked "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls or "Have a Little Faith" by Mitch Alborn, you'll certainly revel in this book. The trajectory of this man's life is as remarkable as any I have ever read, even as it is written in the second person singular (in its novelty, this voice could have become overdone in tone, but Mark Richard is too skilled a writer to descend into sentimentality or silliness). Enjoy this story, be moved, and recommend it as you will.

    admirable and amazing

Mr. Richard defied challenges, imposed limitations, and sensibility but could not escape his mother's prayers and the. blessings of a faithful God.

    BookHounds One of the Best

I have to say that I was totally charmed by this memoir. It is written in second person, which I think is a first for me. To paraphrase Double Day, it is part Southern Gothic mixed with Running With Scissors and I was compelled to read it straight through. I can't say it is completely different than anything I have ever read, but most of those books were fiction. I just found his whole life fascinating and he made the challenges that he face in life - crushing pain from bad hips, multiple surgeries that sounded barbaric, and horrible family life -- part of the inevitable process of life which he lives to the fullest.
