As a child at family gatherings I can remember relatives remarking, "My, that little girl must have a sweet tooth." Well, they were almost right - do believe I have about 30 of them, and all are satisfied with HOUSTON CLASSIC DESSERTS!

With a passion for great food and energy to spare Erin Hicks Miller has compiled this cookbook of sweet endings by focusing on the best Houston, Texas has to offer. And, that's saying something because not only is Houston our country's fourth largest city but more than 8,000 dining establishments are listed in the Houston area. In addition, it boasts some of the most innovative, distinguished restaurants in our land. So tuck in your napkin and be prepared for this collection of sumptuous savories - 40 signature desserts from the best Houston has to offer.

Delighted to see that Miller included Tony's and his more than spectacular Apricot Souffle. This is not only one of the author's choices but one of our personal favorites. This light as air dessert is elegance itself, enriched with apricot flavors and a warm apricot caramel.

Is pie your preference? Not to worry HOUSTON CLASSIC DESSERTS holds recipes for an Apple Strudel such as you've never tasted, an impossibly delicious Buttermilk Pecan Pie, a sweet/tangy Lemon Meringue Tart, and more.

Under the heading of "Cookies, Ice Cream & Candy" you won't be able to resist the Macadamia Nut Blonde Brownie or the Caramel Turtle Affogato. We haven't even mentioned the "Custards & Puddings"!

Each recipe is accompanied by a looks-good-enough-to-eat full color photo, and some notes about its restaurant home.

As Erma Bombeck once said, "Seize the moment. Remember all of those women on the Titanic who waved off the dessert cart."

Enjoy - I know you will!

    - Gail Cooke

This book has the best dessert recipes ever!

When I first saw this book, I knew it was a good one. The photography is stunning, the recipes easy to follow, and every one of the desserts was amazing. (I know because I have been to two book release parties with dessert samples.)

Author Erin Miller worked with several chefs around Houston to gather the best of the best and put this great book together. It is the perfect gift for the baker in your household, or maybe even your own bookshelf.
