A great way to better understand yourself, your partner and your parenting style

This is actually a really good book. I say that as if I was surprised because I was. I generally am not at all interested in self-help or psychoanalysis books, but when I heard some of the questions this book raised about relationships and how they are influenced by familial and childhood experiences, I was impressed enough to give the book a try. My husband and I have been going through the book as we are expecting our first child and it has helped us both come to some important realizations about our pasts, the way we respond to each other, and the kind of parents we'd like to be. We were not having problems in our marriage before reading the book, just interesting in becoming even closer and coming to a better understanding of each other's needs. The book comes with questions for each chapter, in the back, and can be modified for the individual needs of each couple. A productive reading does require both partners to be open to honesty and possibly change, but if this is the case, I highly recommend How We Love, whether your marriage is a little rocky or you're just always on the look-out for ways to establish a deeper bond as a couple and a family.
