The author tells the actual story of the building and evolution of these wonderful structures. As a tour-de-force, it is illustrated largely with classic black and white engravings that do a surprisingly good job on even technical points.
The limited color illustrations show nicely the uses of stained glass windows as well as some of the original colors now stripped from the structures by time or reformist fervor.
A beautiful binding and several foldouts showing details of the church towers just add to the enjoyment. Thank you Malcolm Hislop for this book
