Fantastic book for first time dog owners or those with problem pups!
I've always loved all animals but I've only ever had indoor cats. This past weekend I was offered a lab-boxer mix pup and my heart told me to go for it. He was just too adorable to resist. Right after getting puppy supplies: crate, food, etc. I picked up this book at the local B&N. It has been a Godsend! It is simple, to the point, and full of common sense. Experienced dog owners will probably not find the info to be anything new but for me, a novice, it has a wonderfully straight forward approach that helped me get things off to the right start. In just two and a half days my pup was housebroken. He's happy, I'm happy, and my floors are stain and odor free...what more can you ask for? Yes, the book is short. Yes, in-store its a little over $8. The point is that it includes all the info you need to housebreak your dog and none of the fluff and filler that just fills up pages and increases the price of other books. You'll have to decide for yourself whether a poop and pee free home is worth $8. Personally, I think you'd spend a heck of a lot more than $8 on carpet cleaner, spot treatments, and odor removers if you don't use this book. And for those who say the info could all be found online...maybe so, but I didn't have time to weed through all the crappy advice to find what 'might' work. I thoroughly researched on B&N and 3 other book seller sites to find the highest rated housebreaking book. This one is the top pick for a reason and instead spending days trying to find the right method, I had the right book in my hand in a little over thirty minutes after doing my research. I appreciate saving time and aggravation.
!!!ONE MORE THING BEFORE YOU BUY THE BOOK...PLEASE UNDERSTAND---> YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THE APPROPRIATE SCHEDULE AND ADVICE TO A "T" to have success. If you can't/won't put the time and effort into it, and/or you generally half-A everything you do in life, you really shouldn't have a dog in the first place. To have a wonderful pet, you HAVE to be an equally wonderful owner.5 out of 6 people found this review helpful.

It Really Works!
I first bought this book 13years ago for our puppy Sam. It took less than 7 days and he never had an accident in the house until this past year and that was from getting old and not having control anymore. I gave that book to a friend who brought a puppy home for her son. She said it was Great! Then We got Puppy Shadow 5 years ago and I bought another copy. One week is all it took and he has not had one accident. Same with that book, I had a friend who got a puppy and I gave her my copy. Now my Mother-in-law has a new puppy and needs help. I'm getting a 3rd and updated copy for her. Thanks for a great book.

Lost my 14 year old copy, buying it again!
I bought one of the original copies of this book 14 years ago when we got our first Westie. We tragically lost our little boy a few weeks ago. The two things our family agreed on was a new little boy soon & another copy of this book. It turns dog psychology into people language. A funny & great family read. When our last little man turned 13 weeks (the key age), he was housebroke in 3 days. We never crate trained, just stuck w/ it. He might have had 1 accident in all those years. A must have for anyone getting a puppy! Know anyone getting a pup, give it as a gift, they'll LOVE you for it.

I just recently bought a puppy... The breeder suggested this book! It was great! Read it in one day so it's a super easy read! Highly recommend for new puppy owners!

Great as long as you don't have 2 doxie pups
This is a very informative book. I did use some of the procedures in here and am very consistent when it comes to pets. But I adopted 2 long hair mini doxie pups, and I'm now into week 4 with potty training. I finally had to separate them and it honestly appears, they are understanding the "potty in the pad" (puppy pads). I am away from them so long (due to my commute) that it gives them plenty of time to figure a way out of the 2 bathrooms I'm using as their "den." All in all, I liked the author and learned quite a bit from her. She is very good about covering the basics on dogs. I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to pursue housebreaking your pup/dog. It's just that dauchsund breeds are hard to house break. With a LOT of patience and some of the tips from this book, it can be accomplished. She's done a great job.
