Un-put-down-able

In-cre-di-ble. Allison Brennan delivers nail-biting, edge-of-your seat thrillers. You'll be left with your mouth hanging open. The Hunt wasn't a typical run of the mill thriller, the story line actually leaves you thinking "OMG, I can't believe that happened." This was a very creative and well written piece of fiction.

The Hunt: 4.75:
Brennan is gifted with the ability to spin a tale that grabs you from the first page and never lets your interest falter, even after turning that last page. The Hunt is a prime example of Brennan's skill at emotionally engaging, graphically detailed storytelling.

Hero: 3.0:
Special Agent Quincy "Quinn" Peterson: a tough, strong, dedicated, patient, determined hero who fights for right and justice. Quinn is the kind of hero that a romance reader loves. Not only is he a handsome, very alpha, macho, hunky FBI Agent, but he revealed amazing sensitivity and patience as he became Miranda's bedrock. Even though it was obvious that Quinn was anything but a wimp, his quite strength was occasionally overpowered by Miranda's 'bull in the china shop,' characterization.

Heroine: 4.0:
Miranda "Randy" Moore: a stubborn, strong-willed, driven Search and Rescue expert who was obsessed with stopping the villain who tortured her and killed her best friend. Miranda's ability to resume a life of normalcy after her ordeal at the hands of a serial killer spoke of her tenacity, strong spirit and having the aid and support of family and friends. However, her obtuseness and unwillingness to listen to Quinn's explanation for his actions at the Academy, while realistic, became irritating.

Story Line: 4.75:
A fascinating, gripping, thrilling story. A sole survivor of a serial killer, Miranda is so obsessed with catching The Bozeman Butcher that she tends to ostracize the people who care for her. When Quinn arrives in Gallatin County, Montana, to re-open the investigation after another victim is found, the love that had developed between Quinn and Miranda ten years ago is resurrected as they join forces to stop a truly heinous villain.

Emotion: 4.0:
It was easy to empathize with the three main characters, Nick, Quinn, and Miranda so that a strong emotional connection developed between the reader and the characters. Although there were several times when it was easy to become choked up, Bennan never actually brought forth tears during the telling of Quinn and Miranda's story.

Romance: 4.0:
A renewing of the attraction between Quinn and Miranda was interwoven seamlessly into fabric of the story. Brennan never allowed the romantic aspect of the story disappear behind the strong aura of suspense.

Secondary Characters: 4.5:
The most memorable and vibrant secondary character was the conflicted Sheriff Nick Thomas. Several other memorable secondary characters added depth and a rich flavor to the book: {1} Bill Moore, {2} Ben "Gray" Grayhawk, {3} Ryan Parker, {4} Elijah "Eli" Banks, and {5} Sam Harris. Not to be forgotten, were the chilling and complex characterizations presented of the two villains featured in the book.

Spine Tingling Suspense At It's Best

¿The Hunt¿ by Allison Brennan is the second in her debut series. This is a story of one resilient woman and her drive to survive. Miranda was kidnapped, brutally raped and then hunted like an animal by her rapist. Miranda did the one thing that her predator didn¿t expect; she outran him and beat him at his own game. He was nicknamed the Bozeman Butcher and about every three years he hunts women. Unfortunately the police are always a few steps behind the Butcher and they can¿t find the lost women before he hunts them.

Miranda learned to trust and to love men again from Quincy Peterson, an FBI agent who worked her case. They could have been great together, but Quinn did something that Miranda could never forgive. He betrayed the trust that she had placed in him.

Quinn is back and more than anything he wants to catch the Butcher. He wants to make him pay for everything that he did to Miranda while she was his captive. Ten years ago, he did what he thought was best and he let the love of his life walk out of it. Now he has two goals in mind: first and foremost, capturing the Butcher, and winning back Miranda¿s heart and trust.

A Haunting Story

Allison Brennan does such an excellent job developing characters with which you develop a connection and her stories haunt you well after you're finished reading them. What the women in The Hunt go through is devastating and it's even scarier because, to an extent, this could very well happen. As in her other books, you have a strong heroine who is an excellent role model for all women. I've read 5 of Brennan's books now and while they all have the same basic formula (hero + heroine, eventually get together, etc.), the crimes are completely different and very creative.

Excellent

This was the first book that I have read by Allison Brennan, and she had me from page one. I couldn't put it down. I just finished it and ran out to buy The Kill. I can't wait to read The Prey. She is right up there with the greats.

Great addition to The Prey

The Hunt is an awesome follow-up story to Brennan's first, The Prey, yet stands alone as a story about terror and its aftereffects. Miranda Moore is set on one course in life, to bring to justice the Butcher of Bozeman. A killer with no mercy who tormented Miranda and her friend Sharon for an entire week only to set them free to hunt...with them as the prey. Miranda survives the ordeal and vows to never stop until the killer is caught.

THE HUNT ¿ Second in the series just gets Better!

Allison Brennan¿s second romantic suspense had a hard act to follow behind her NYT best selling THE PREY. But she managed to top that incredible debut book with THE HUNT. Miranda Moore survived a week of torture no woman would want to face. The Butcher likes to rape and torture women chained to the floor¿then turn them loose to hunt. Allison created a refreshingly non-stereotypical serial killer that creeps out the strongest readers. The story starts out fast and just keeps ratcheting up until the thrilling climax. FBI agent Quinn never stopped loving Miranda. He helped her climb back into the daylight after she escaped the Butcher. But she never forgave Quinn for barring her from entry into the FBI. He¿s back and determined to regain her trust¿if she¿ll let him. Suspense and romantic tension at its best. One can only wonder about THE KILL¿Allison¿s third book due out in March. Kudos on a brilliant start to a long writing career.

exhilarating FBI thriller

Miranda and Sarah were fleeing the killer, but the latter was falling behind. Miranda wants to live, but cannot ignore her friend. She goes back to help Sarah, but the predator closes in on them with his rifle, aims and fires. Sarah is dead while Miranda manages to escape. --- Twelve years later in Montana, the seventh mutilated victim Rebecca Thomas of the serial killer the Butcher shakes up Sheriff Nick Thomas, who is pleased his friend FBI Agent Quincy Peterson will help on the investigation. Quin needs to end the reign of terror for Miranda Moore, a tough survivor who he carried to safety when she fled the Butcher twelve years ago. He loves her, but she is fixated on the Butcher, the reason he kicked her out of the FBI Academy. When another young woman is abducted, Quin leads the investigation with Miranda, a member of a Bozeman search-and-rescue unit, on his team. --- The second Allison Brennan FBI thriller (see THE PREY) is an exhilarating tale that grips the audience from the moment that Nick, Quin, and Miranda converge on the latest murder scene and never slows down until the final conflict with the Butcher. The police procedural serial killer story line grips readers as they hope the cops can rescue the college coed before she becomes the latest brutalized Big Sky victim. The romantic subplot between Quin and Miranda adds tension as they love one another, but she has not forgiven him for flunking her at the FBI Academy, the hardest thing he ever did. Nick augments the pressure as he wants Miranda as his wife. Romantic suspense fans will cherish this taut thriller and look forward to more with THE KILL coming soon. --- Harriet Klausner
