Usefull information, good techniques, but a little "crunchy granola"

Overall, a good choice for someone wanting an unmedicated birth. The relaxaion CD is nice. There are a few chapters which are interesting, but I'm not sure are entirely necessary for the average pregnant woman. I'm a labor and delivery nurse and chose this book for 2 reasons. 1- I had a patient use the techniques and had a beautiful, unmedicated, delivery, 2- my midwife has used it with others and recommended it. I plan to use the breathing and relaxation techniques in my own labor, I think they can work. However, I think the book gives an unfair view of some elements of the labor and delivery process. I don't see the medical "jargon" as a negative thing, so I found the renaming of elements of the labor and delivery process unnecessary. I don't want to get too specific, but I think there are some inacuracies. I don't think they are intentional, just biases on the authors part. I think as long as the woman has a good relationship with her care provider, and makes her wishes known, she can have the experience she desires.

    more from this reviewer

If you're considering natural childbirth, this is a great place to start!

As someone in my third trimester, I highly recommend this book to anyone considering natural childbirth. Probably the best thing you could do for yourself is to take a class and practice like crazy, but having this reference and cd to get started on the right path is also quite valuable. The book is engaging, forthright about what you're committing to attempting, and informative about what you need to do to get there. Good luck!

My husband and I took they HypnoBirthing course in preparation for our daughter's birth, and found it to be the most affirming, thorough, and positive experience. I went on to have an amazing natural birth in a hospital, and our instructor was there as our doula. In addition to giving me the confidence to go into the birth without fear, it also gave my husband the tools to support me through it all. I HIGHLY recommend HypnoBirthing to any woman who wants to give birth naturally.

Amazing Book! Amazing Approach to Birth!

After hearing about horrible and painful birthing stories, I knew there must have been a better way. I was searching for a more holistic and natural approach to birth without drugs or other interventions.

I came across a hypnobirthing video and I was amazed and wanted to learn more. I enrolled in a hypnobirthing class in my area with my fiance and loved it. This was the book that came with the course.

After what I've learned, I feel compelled to let every other woman out there know about hypnobirthing.

This book is very educational and inspiring. As a mother to be, I felt empowered and excited for birth. I hope that more woman feel the same way and get to experience a painless and peaceful birth.
