This is a book that every person should read.  Whether you are an unbeliever, skeptic, nominal Christian, or a fully devoted follower of Christ you will find wisdom and inspiration in this book.  The personal stories of the individuals featured here are the gripping and sometimes gritty accounts of lives lived by putting the individual first.
I Am Second is more than a book.  The book links you to a website where you can view video testimonies of each of the 20 people featured in the book, as well as many others.  I Am Second reaches beyond the book, website and videos.  The aim is to create a movement, inspiring people to put God in control of their lives.
Submission is not popular.  America is a nation of individualists.  We all want to be the captain of our own ship.  We want to be in charge.  Everything revolves around us.  We each want to be the center of our own universe.  We are first place in our own lives. This book takes a look at the lives of people who were living under these ideals.  We see the devastation that can occur when we try to run our lives by ourselves and chasing after our own desires.
Each of the people featured in this book whether famous or not, hit a point in their lives that they realized that they could not continue on alone.  They turned to God, asked forgiveness for their past mistakes, and now try to live their lives with God in control.
The individual stories give you an incomplete story about how to follow Jesus, but taken as a whole you begin to get the whole picture.   Some of the stories are better than others, and some stories will have greater impact for one individual or another.  If a particular story doesn't speak to you, just finish it and move on to the next.  The book as a whole paints a larger picture than the sum of the individual stories.  It could go deeper, but the strength of this book is that it may open the door for further exploration of what it means to follow Christ.
I feel this book is a needed addition to the videos on the I Am Second website.  It is an easy book for a skeptic or unbeliever to read, and it could be a great tool for believers to use when sharing the Gospel with others.  Jon "Ole" Olsen October 2013
