Sorry Sam. Stick with performing. Stop publishing.

I'm feeling a lot cheated. I bought this book online from B&N about a month ago and paid almost $20. Now it's on sale for $4??!!! Yikes. This is about a $4 book. I really like Samantha Bee on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, but this book wasn't all that funny. It was an odd book--she tried to be funny and many of the situations she wrote about should have struck me as funny, but they didn't. She is not talented in the humor writing department--just in performing. I also thought she had way too many obsolete (or soon will be) pop culture references and even though I am roughly the same age as she is (I think she's a few years older), I still didn't catch some of her references. I was also irritated that although she is such a huge animal lover, she doesn't (or didn't) bother to neuter her cat until he "raped" her several times. She also seemed to have a cavalier attitude regarding all the cats who had died due to her (or her family's) neglect (letting them run wild in the neighborhood & get run over). Overall, I highly recommend watching Samantha on tv, but don't read her book. Not worth the money.

I highly recommend this on audiobook. Listening to Samantha Bee

I highly recommend this on audiobook. Listening to Samantha Bee in her own voice read these essays made me laugh out loud throughout the book. I read some of the negative reviews, and I think some of the humor may not come across as well in print as it does in the audiobook.

    Funny, but slightly crude.

I enjoyed Samantha Bee's dry humor. But, her writing is a little vulgar (which I love), and not for the faint of heart. A good, easy read. But, the timing of her jokes doesn't always flow like one might like.

    its......ok

This book was supposed to be funny... right? Well it was only funny about five-seven times in the whole 256 pages. It was very crude if you are sensitive to that sort of thing and was pretty descriptive of male parts and sex positions. Overall I had a hard time finishing it and felt I had wasted a few hours of my time. I hate writing a bad review like this but I don't want any more people to be disappointed!

I Know I am but What are You?

I have never seen The Daily Show and did not know who Samantha Bee was, but after reading her book, I find her to be witty and hysterical. I enjoyed this memoir. It's good to laugh and one self and a few people caught my laughing out loud as I read this book.

This lady is cuh-RA-zee! lol But in the best way and I love her.
Samantha Bee's first book, i know i am, but what are you?, is a twistedly funny memoir. It has the kind of half embarrassing and half hysterical stories that we tend to laugh like crazy over with family and close friends, but when asked by an outsider "what's so funny?", you reply "nothing" and keep it as an inside joke. The great thing about really funny comics like Samantha is that she shares these anecdotes, and you just can't help but laugh harder for it. One of my favorites when she talks about her mom's visit with her to Woodstock. I won't ruin the story but dang that made me laugh :D

You can check out Samantha Bee on Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Monday through Thursday nights at 11pm/10c) where she holds the title of Most Senior Correspondent after having systematically eliminating all those before her.

    I LOL'd at This Book!

I have been a fan of "The Daily Show" for a long time and Samantha Bee is one of my favorite "correspondents". It's one of those shows (for those that either do not watch tv *gasp* or don't have cable) that takes your average everyday WTH stance on politics and gives it the proper twist so that you don't feel all alone in your horror and can actually laugh at that horror.

This book is hilarious! I caught myself laughing on several occasions annoying my sleeping dog (he hates to be waken up during his beauty sleep). It is definitely an adult read and not for the youngsters as you might well guess. And although I am thoroughly convinced that Samantha will go to gerbil/rodent hell in her afterlife I still will say this is one good read. If you like your biography with a large dose of humor, do pick up this book. You won't be disappointed.

I give this book 5 stars. It is exactly what I expected and a bit more.
