Enlightning!!!
I was amazed at how I could read a book written by someone I never knew and see a lot of my life displayed. To "walk the line" is a gift in loving someone that we must be proud of even though it is not returned to us. Love like that is rare and demostrates a respect for a human heart entrusted to another. To readers I say, continue to walk the line. There is always a blessing in doing the right thing. There will always be someone who want what you have or want to destroy what you have built. Still walk the line. I would recommend this book to couples now starting out.

touching, eye opening, revealing
i was soooo excited to start this book and i started reading it right away. once i reached the point of johnny's love letters, i figured it would be cool to read them. after a while i started getting bored reading a one person conversation and i always wondered what her letters said. once i got passed the love letters and started the story again, i was very glad and appreciative of the letters. it helps to make the end of the story. but i still feel that vivian shoudl have published a book with both of their letters, that would have been very revealing.
in the end, i found this book very touching and revealing when it comes to the johnny, vivian and june situation. for the most part, the public has only seen the love story of johnny and june, without any regard for the real wife of johnny. i must admit, up until this book, i thought june & johnny were meant for each other and what a wonderful, but tragic, love affair. now that i have read this story & seen the love letters for myself, i know that vivian was johnny's true love. not that i think johnny didn't love june, i just believe that vivian was his "true love."
i recommend this book for any love enthusiast, cash lover or any women wondering what to do next.1 out of 3 people found this review helpful.

Intimate look at the less known Johnny Cash
This book was a bit boring at times because of the letters, but they played a role in their story. I'm really glad I read this book. There are two sides to every story, and this is Vivian's. She deserves to be heard, too.

The title should be: Love "Letters from Johnny"
Poor, 75% of the book is just A reprinting of the letters Johnny wrote during the two years when he was stationed in Germany and before they we even married. B O O R I N G. Don't waiste your money, sorry I did !!!!

The other side of the story!
Worth reading just to learn something about the "seldom mentioned" 1st wife of Johnny Cash. The beginning, as well as the ending, of the book was interesting but all the letters from him to her when they were teenagers were typical of what a homesick 19 year old might write and were very boring. It's well worth the sale cost of the book to hear the other side of the Cash/Carter romance. Apparently, June wanted her man (and his money) at any cost. I'd recommend this book for any Cash fan but anyone else would not find it very interesting. I' glad I read it.

Haunting Love Story...
I just finished this book and my thoughts are haunted by all Vivian went through in the early years with Johnny, how she waited so long for him while he was in the service, what his beliefs and demands were and how he changed... It would have been fun to discuss this book with a book club.

I agree the one-sided letters from Johnny to Vivan got alittle boring in the middle, but again, they really set the stage for the rest of the story. I too would have liked to read Vivian's responses - maybe they are no longer available.
It puts a whole different spin on the "love" of Johnny and June. A must read for all Johnny Cash fans, for those interested in drug addiction and abuse, etc. -
Better than I expected........
I knew little of Johnny Cash aside from what I have encountered in movies. Hearing Vivian's experience was very enlightening and touching at the same time. Those volumes of love letters written during their several year separation were beautiful at the most basic level. What happened during their marriage was truly a roller coaster of emotions, starting with his quick rise to fame, the touring, the addictions, and the heartache. The author did a brilliant job telling Vivian's story. Highly recommended.......
