When Cordelia Hammer returns to The Bonfire Academy to begin her voluntary third year she could never have imagined how her life would change. The Bonfire Academy is a prep school hidden in St. Moritz, Switzerland that is exclusive to the elite paranormal society. Students come from all over the world to learn how to control and develop their paranormal skills. Since Cordelia’s third year was an enrichment year, she planned to work on her tennis skills and spend time with her boyfriend Quinn. Upon her arrival, Cordelia receives a request to meet with the student council president, Jagger. In the course of their initial meeting Cordelia learns she is to mentor a young girl named Faustine, who is half demon and half human. Cordelia begins to realize that not only will she have to keep Faustine safe; she will also have to try to contain her attraction to Jagger.

Initiation begins with the opening line “Trust No One”. Imogen Rose captures the reader’s attention from that moment and does not let go. The relationship between the characters of Faustine and Cordelia deepen as the book progresses. What begins as a daunting task for Cordelia ends with a strong bond between the girls. The love triangle between Cordelia, Quinn and Jagger has the perfect amount of tension due in part to Cordelia’s loyalty to Quinn and her new love for Jagger. The secondary characters are engaging and interesting.

Imogen Rose paints a vivid picture of life at The Bonfire Academy. Her descriptions of demons, vampires, witches, shape shifters and other creatures are detailed and imaginative. This is a fast paced, well-plotted book that flows effortlessly. The elements of mystery, suspense and adventure are woven together to create a fantastic first book in the Bonfire Academy Series.

I love para-normal books, but I just couldn't get into this series. Quit reading after bk 2. I feel, there is soo much better. I recommend passing on this.

When J.K. Rowling started this ‘paranormal’ school story phenomenon with Harry Potter series, it seemed like it had sparked a new craze among readers and authors alike. I’ve read several books centered on this type of story but so far they fell short of my expectation. They were either a little too cliché for my liking or a lousy rendition of Harry Potter. Before starting to read Initiation, I was a bit nervous for the author for fear that her story would fail me but surprisingly it came out so well and truly enjoyable.

As the story progresses, readers are introduced to several other quirky characters and brought to courtroom drama which reminded me of a scene from Law & Order. Overall, the book was a mesmerizing read; it had a great premise to it and a truly fantastic beginning to the series.

Hooked and ready to see what happens next

This first prequel has andventure, love and danger. With cordelia stuck between her boyfriend and her "mate" and faustine trying to learn her demon side and contol it! This book is a real page turner straight from page one.

I really, truly enjoyed this book. The characters were all very unique with their own special abilities and personalities. I absolutely loved that this story took place in a private school for paranormals, such a great combo for my personal tastes. The pacing was also very well done and even though this book is on the longer side, it never felt like it was a long book, because so much is happening. There was only one thing I didn't like, which had to do with the love triangle, but I don't want to put in any spoilers. So just know I loved the love triangle, but at the same time I didn't. Overall, really great story and I will definitely continue with the series!
