    Insanely Disappointing...

This book truley proves that slapping an award onto the front cover wont help the inside at all. The characters and the plot were bland, making you wish that it would just end. But the author skillfully hid the lack of plot and character development behind flamboyant metaphors and similies. Eleven year old girls are not philosophers, so when Icy randomly spews her knowledge it sounded more like the author was talking than the character. This book shall be the first to go to the dump next week.

This book is a waste of time

This book the by far worst book I have ever read in my life, and I read a lot! The characters were boring and had no personality, and weren't around long enough to actually know and understand. the style of writing isn't bad, and i would read another one of her books, but this isn't a good choice

The worst book I have ever read!

I hated this story. It was well written, but the unreal treatment of this girl was hiddeous! I couldn't believe that I was reading this book. I kept reading it in hope that some part of this story would salvage it from my poor opinion. This is the first Oprah book I have read and I must tell you... I will give pause to the thought of reading another.

    Are they kidding??

I fail to see the appeal in this book as some have. I tried several times to get started on it and I couldn't make sense of it. Also, I think the author's continual use of dialect and 'mountain talkin' was extremely annoying, and added nothing to nothing.

    Disappointing to say the least................

Two things made me read this book. First the subject matter interested me. Second, Oprah raved about this book. I have read many of Oprahs books and most I love. Maybe Ive reached my limit. This book was uninteresting and I had to force myself to finish it because I had paid for it. It never got started and the ending was detached from the rest of the book! Oprah needs to reread this one!!

    This book was horrible

It started out promising. The story line was unique and interesting enough for me to forgive the mediocre writing and, at times, painful attempts at realistic dialogue. The entire third section of this book was a waste of time. I stopped caring about the character who had actually made an emotional connection to me in the first and second sections of the book. The ending was truly bizzarre- in the last 30 pages, she finds god at a jesus-freak revival and is suddenly able to control her disorder, allowing the town to accept her? what does this teach the reader? i finished this book utterly disgusted at the amount of time I wasted on this pointless runon. It is possible that with some revision, this book could have been saved- it was not ready for publication in its current form.

    slow and boring

I thought the book sounded interesting,I kept reading to see if it got any better, but it was boring, if I can't read a book in 2 days, then you know it sucks. A book should be able to keep you going without putting it down. Don't bother.

    Bor-ING!!

I have to agree with the reviewer in Kansas City- I am more than three quarters of the way through this book, and I really cannot stand it! I am not interested in ANY of the characters and do not think it is at all funny or touching! I read a lot of Oprah's Books and usually like them, but this one is awful! I am making myself finish it- and I am really looking forward to starting a new book!
