A Revised Look Behind The Scenes At The Marvel U!
I didn't know what to expect with this trade other than too much dialogue from Bendis and great art by Cheung. What I got was muc more. Bendis laid off the hyper-verbose style of his regular Avengers books and Cheung's art was even better than advertised. There were great scenes that played out in classic moments in time told from a different perspective. I loved that angle. I also was pleseantly suprised by the amount of humor in this. Loved it. Overall, a really good read that sets up Secret Invasion well.

Founding Fathers
...excellent book. Perfect for fans of classic Marvel heroes, it weaves in and out of stories in the larger Marvel Universe. Imagine: a secret meeting of the some of the greatest, most powerful and iconic superheroes. This is the rare chance to see these beings together, as friends, as comrades. The action is more or less secondary to the moral and universal concerns; it has an epic sensibility extending beyond the idea of adventure. Well worth a look. Excellent style.

essential Marvel reading.
Redefining the Marvel universe in ways not previously understood, New Avengers: Illuminati brings to light the existence of a secret cabal of heroes, pushing their own agendas and interests without prior knowledge from the rest of the superhero community.

Illuminati works on so many levels; it opens up new windows to understanding past events in the Marvel universe, it redefines characters we had previously thought we knew in the Marvel superhero community, it shows major decisions and actions that sets things up for the Marvel megaevents, and plainly just an entertaining read on its own. Unfortunately, non-Marvel fans will not catch all the nuances the story hints at, but I believe these stories have been written well enough that even they would get to enjoy it. -
