    Awfully Awful

I'd really like to know how some books get published. This is the worst book I've read in a while. What in the world was the author, editor & publisher thinking. To be honest I never even finished it. And I'm ashamed to say that I had to suppress the urge to hurl it across the room into the trash bin. I never toss books in the trash, it just isn't done but lord this garbage really tested me. So for the record the book sucked and don't waste your coins on it. Oh and by the way it had nothing to do w/the interracial angle because that's what interested me about it in the first place. It was the horrific writing that murdered it. I mean really, writing all that drivel about these other crappy books and her opinions on them and him having chapters of conversation w/his dead wife. I mean really what the bloody hell was all that about. What kinda crap was that. Anywho on to the next.

I was very excited to read the book. I was disapointed to see that most of the book is about the main character reading other books and commenting on them. The main characters don't really interact until about 150 pages in which is unusual for a love story. I didn't see any real chemistry between the chracters and the conversation they had with themselves were more interesting than anything they said to each other. I could see promise in the writing but over all I feel like the book was full of fluff and not enough substance. I could identify with the main female character although I dont know why she was single. I scanned over a lot of the book because so much wasn't relevant nor did it contribute to the story. The writing style reminded me of a new author so I will try another book because the story lines seem amazing but the execution may leave something to be desired.

Too many chapters, not enough drama

This book started out extremely slow. Mr. Murray takes away from the plot by making the characters read into other unneccessary materials. Adding the extra stories took away from the development of Diane and Jacks romance. It would have been nice to see an earlier encounter with them and maybe add a couple more love scenes. It would have also been nice to see if they had a child together. I really wanted to like this book, but too many chapters about nothing.

Slow start, picked up in the middle, rushed ending.

Overall this book left me with a good feeling. It told a touching story. I liked the main characters, I felt that by the end of the story that I knew them.
I will read another of this authors books,to see if some of the things I personally find annoying recur. I like to feel like I am there in the midst of the action, if the character smells something I want a whiff. Through some of this book I never felt that. Took too long to get to the relatiionship. Plus the other books Diane is reviewing, interferred with the plotline.
I had to put the book aside a few days and come back to it. Normally, if I do that, I never get back to that book. But, I wanted to give this author the benefit of the doubt, since this is my first time reading any of his work.

    Skip the middle

I'm a huge J.J. Murray fan, so please understand this comes from a place of love and unyielding devotion to good romance novels. The beginning was great, I instantly connected with the characters. But the middle was a snoozer, I mean seriously, who wants to read a book about a person reading a book. The idea was interesting but in terms of dialog I was beyond bored, and skipped to the next chapters that focused on the exchange between the main characters. I adore the main story, and both of the main characters but I felt it was to many stories in one book.

Don't Judge a Book by its Cover

I LOVE to read that's why I purchase a Nook because I had just too many books around my home. I have only read this one book my JJ Murray because the book cover then I read the story line on back. OMG, this was the WORST book I have EVER read, I would NEVER pick up another book my JJ Murray. I couldn't wait to tell my bookclub and all of my sistha bookclubs members in 6 other states to NEVER get this book or author. I should be a romance author since anybody can put a book out.

Slow to start but eventually good

I almost gave up on this book early... it was hard to keep up with the several books she was reviewing and keep the actual story straight. It ended up being a cute story and i'm glad i made it to the end.

    Different

It a different style of writting and it has been hard to get into it but it does has some good attrubutes. Jack makes you feel what he is going through trying to get back into life after a tragedy. The relationship between the two characters and how it develope was interesting. One ia an author the other reviewed them. Both of them are ready for a relationship because of living with out a love in their lives. It is a book that will take you a while to get into it be you can if you know that this style is a little different then you are use to.

    Disappointed

I wish I had read the reviews prior to purchasing this book. I have added this author to my do not read list. The writing style was very confusing and slow to interest this reader. I was hoping for so much more. I look forward to additonal attempts at multicultural romance writing. I do not recommend this book.

    I Also Recommend:

Slow start but an interesting read

This book had a slow start. The first hundred or so pages the characters, Jack Browning and Diane Anderson talk to themselves or to books. When the two characters finally met it drew me in. Jack was in mourning over losing his family tragically and Diane was lonely. They were both looking for something and found it in each other. The two characters had a spark and you just knew that they were going to hit it off.
I don't normally read romance novels but I was intrigued by the interracial aspect of the book. The interracial romance was brought up but was not so heavy handed that you grew tired of it. Once the characters slowly started falling in love you forget that they are not the same ethnicity. This book shows that you love who you love no matter what.

    One word...CONFUSING

Oh my God, this book was too confusing for even me. All the plot-within-a-plot, reviews-within-the-plot, and writing-within-the-plot just made for one big confusing and BORING mess. It didn't hold my attention and I'm sorry to say that I stopped reading the book.

    Tough Read

This book takes way too long to get to the point. I had a very hard time getting into the books within the book and the reviews though funny sometimes were just too much to deal with.

    Huh?

I have been a reader of romance novels since I was twelve years old. I'll pretty much read anything and had a lot of hope for this book. It seemed like the entire core of the booked was compressed into the last 75 pages. The "writing within the writing" was confusing and I personally thought those stories were more interesting then this one. I had a hard time keeping up with the thoughts in Jack's head as we was writing his next book and the thoughts in Diane's head as she was reviewing the other ones.

    Interesting and Awesome

Overall this book was really good. It took a while for me to get into the characters because of all the extra dialogue that was going on. However, after the first couple of chapters, I couldn't put the book down. This book is original, witty, comical and one of a kind. Not your typical romance novel.

One of Best for me this year!!

This is my second book from JJ. Murray (first one was "Something Real") and I have to say that I have never enjoyed a book this much. And to show how much it is a great book, I am not even done reading it ( i am on page 217 right this minute!! (at work) ) I have to give this book 10 stars for its originality..The way the author managed to include books the charaters were reading and reviewing was great. The characters are sweet..Diane's mom got on my nerves with her interrogations (maybe because she is possibly related to my mom) OH! and the way Jack was talking to himself!! You relate to them and truly enjoy this book. You feel that this could be your story.
My sister said that is was a bit confusing because it's in the first person and there are other stories within the story but she's not a professional reader like me (I'm still working on her)...:)
Buy this book and I hope you really enjoy it like I am..TwinSoul

Ick..I could not force myself to finish this book.

This is a book in a book in a book. The dialogue was so convoluted it gave me a headache trying to read it. The one character is writing a book the other character is reading several books and as the reader we are right there along with both of them. Then it gets worse the characters talk to themselves. It was horrid. I don't believe I have ever stopped reading a book before - but this was just migraine inducing I tell ya!
