A good book, but not one of his best

Imager's Portfolio books 1 and 2 were a bit on the slow side but not to the point where the reader (at least myself) would be skipping paragraphs that seemed to be tedious. At times, it seemed as if one was sitting in a discussion of English Lit at the freshman level.

The story and the general flow of the story is good. What is bothersome is that it seems to take too much time to get to the point of each chapter. One gets the feeling that at times the author just wanted to get an other 250 word page.

Again - the plot of the book is good - the problem is that it seems to take too much of a bumelzug instead of a normal trip.

A good if predictable follow up on the first two books in the series

This third publication in the Imager Portfolio Series is a decent read and a good way to spend an evening. I doesn't break any actual new ground with character or plot. But continues the story in a well built manner. Not a book that stands on its own. If you haven't read the first two books in the series, you wont find this story understandable. Unlike many of this authors other series, these books all rely heavily on the events in the previous books. Modesit has created a fantasy world that is unique in its structure and cultures while bringing a thoughtful approach to the politics of power, both individual and those of a society. I look forward to the next book in this series even though it is largely predictable where it will be going with this character.
