Powerful-Inspirational Book for All People in Recovery and/or Know Someone in Recovery (or is in active addiction)
I am a 25 year old male that has been in active recovery for 16 months. This book was given to me as a gift and is one of the best gifts I have ever received in my life! Thomas Henderson¿s book ¿In Control¿ is a book that tells a story of a man that has faced battles and has defeated them with great courage and strength. This book is a reflection of a man that is just like any person facing addiction or any person that knows someone facing addiction in their life. Literally I picked this book up and could not set it down. I read pages and re-read pages reflecting and seeing my life through his literature. ¿In Control¿ travels with me where ever I go; to work, on vacation, getting my oil changed at the car dealership, etc. I look at this book as a second bible to ¿The Big Book¿ of A.A. Any person from any walk of life will relate to Thomas¿s story and will gain great insight into what this thing we call ¿life¿ is all about. It is spoken in a very clear way which makes it extremely easy to read and have moments on each page where you think ¿that was me¿ or ¿that is just like my husband, son, wife, and daughter¿. I encourage every person to read this book. Not just those of you in recovery (which this should become part of your daily readings, not kidding), but any member of Families or Friends that has a chemical dependant person in your life or a chemically dependant person in recovery who is in your life. I went to all of the A.A. meetings I was supposed to after I got out of Hazelden Treatment Center in Minnesota and attended aftercare which was part of my immediate plan after getting back into the real world. My Father and Mother bought this book for me and actually met Thomas Henderson and he spoke with them for a few minutes and autographed my book. My parents that day did not only buy one book for me, they bought five books, one for each member of our immediate family and I am the only one in ¿active recovery¿. I reflect in the form of writing in a journal, meditation, e-mail, discussions at AA Meetings, discussions with friends, etc. There are countless reflections I write after reading a passage, page, paragraph of this book. This book has changed my life and it will yours too if you buy it and read it, intellectual growth, spiritual growth, recovery strengthening, relationship skill building, putting the pieces of your life back together, etc will happen. I can¿t express enough how much this book means to me! A man that some ¿ignorant critics (the word ignorant means uneducated)¿ think is all about fame and fortune and is now a ¿wash-up¿ is absolutely wrong in every way possible. Thomas Henderson shares his story and is passing a long the message in his writing of ¿In Control¿. Thomas sincerely cares so much, he was sent some of my writings and Thomas himself personally called me and talked to me for a while about life, recovery, how I was doing, a very personal sincere conversation (this man cares). I was ¿blown away¿ by his phone call and it put me in tears of happiness and joy. If you want to read a book that will change your life, you should buy this book and also check out his website (type Thomas Henderson ¿In Control¿ into a search engine and you will find it). Thomas not only put his life of recovery in the spot-light to pass on the message to others, but also generously gives to the youth in his community building a better life for others. ¿In Control¿ is an inspirational piece of literature that will remain with me for the rest of my life. I have read it not only once, but I am on my second round, and will continue to read it forever. ¿In Control¿ is not only an autobiography, but a book of reference. You will not be disappointed in this book. I would like to reiterate a point I mentioned above. ¿In Control¿ is a spectacular resource for members in recovery, members still using substances, family members of those who have an alcoholic/addict, adolescents in recovery or atWas this review helpful?
