Great Story Great Writing
This is an incredibly well written story. Merullo really manages to suck you into the life of this little boy. His perspective of the adolescent mind is incredible. If you grew up in new england or on the east coast you will especially love this story, especially if you happen to come from an italian family. His descriptions of working class new england family life and neighborhoods is just perfect.

Heartfelt story about growing up...
This story especially attracted my attention because of my interest in the setting of Revere, Mass and the family dynamics of growing up in an Italian-American household. The very human mistakes and character flaws of the Benedetto family make this a realistic and thoroughly enjoyable cast of characters, and it was difficult to put the book down once I started. There were times in the book when I was suprised and saddened by what was happening to the family, and Antonio in particular, but it just made me enjoy reading more about the journey his life became. Great, engrossing read with some extremely amusing, and very accurate, references to life in an Italian community in Massachusetts. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
