Rhys Bowen has done it again! She's created yet another great Molly Murphy mystery that I have devoured in less than 2 days! Its that good. Rhys' attention to detail means she captures the spirit of turn of the century New York so successfully that you are simply transported. If you love historical mysteries, you can't get any better than this.

    Rhys Bowen

There hasn't been a bad book that was written by Rhys Bowen. All of the books I've read by her are totally great. The historical background and Molly's personality are a delight to all. Loved the book and am looking forward to the next one.

I May Be Kin to Molly Murphy!

Perhaps my thoroughly Irish background influences my enjoyment of Miss Murphy or maybe I just enjoy a nicely written story with some serious topics introduced engagingly. In either case I've read every book in this series and will continue to do so as Rhys Bowen creates them.

Molly Murphy series getting better and better

I have enjoyed each new chapter of the Molly Murphy series and "In a Gilded Cage" is no exception. Ms. Bowen has written another novel about this female private detective in New York City and the turn of the last century. Since I enjoy historical fiction, I really take pleasure in the painstaking detail that Ms. Bowen describes the city in these books. Having lived in New York City, I can get the sense of what it was like 100 years ago. Molly is hired by not one but two female acquaintances that lead her throughout the city, while she still tries to maintain a relationship with her policeman fiancé. These Molly Murphy mysteries are pure historical joy.

Molly Murphy Is Better Than Ever

Molly Murphy is back again in another page-turner. The characters from the previous books in this series blended in perfectly, the story kept you guessing until the end and I can't wait for the next Molly Murphy mystery. Rhys Bowen transports her readers into the early 20th century and gives you the feeling that you're actually experiencing this time-period along with the fantastic heroine, Molly.

excellent early twentieth century Manhattan mystery

Following a particularly cold New York winter, two friends of Molly Murphy persuade the private investigator to join the "Vassar Wants Votes for Women" march in the annual Easter Parade. On Fifth Avenue where the parade is held, Molly meets Emily Boswell and several of her socialite friends. They cause a disturbance and NYPD's finest arrest Molly, Emily and the other women.

Molly's fiancé exasperated police captain Daniel Sullivan gets the females released from their cell, but is uninterested in the women's right to vote movement. Meanwhile Emily hires Molly to investigate the deaths of her missionary parents and the loss of their estate that she should have inherited; she cannot pay much of a fee because she is eeking out a living at a drugstore.

As always with this excellent early twentieth century Manhattan mystery series (see TELL ME, PRETTY MAIDEN), the time and place make for a terrific read. The Boswell inquiry and another investigation are cleverly drawn emphasizing that Molly's sleuthing business is booming, but it is Rhys Bowen's description of Easter Parade New York that makes for a vivid look back to the beginning of the last century.
