    Great Primer

I got this because I am began taking Aikido recently. I found the book VERY helpful. I was pleased to see that the author describes some of the differences you might find in different dojos (Aikido vs. Karate vs. Judo, for example), but he is also careful to be respectful of all of them, and not obviously biased toward any.
I also enjoyed that he was good about explaining some of the history and the meanings behind different things. I always like to know not just what we are doing, but WHY we are doing it. It has given more depth and meaning to my training experience.
It is a fairly easy read, and very informative. Also, as I mentioned before, it is not targeted to a specific martial art, but still has plenty of information that makes it useful to practitioners of any martial art. Unless you can find one that is specifically for the martial art you are interested in or your Sensei recommends a particular one, I would highly recommend this book.

    Excellent Read

‘In The Dojo’ is well written. Many of the practiced traditions I have seen from one Dojo to another, with some variations of course. I really enjoyed reading the book and anyone who has spent time in the arts would also.
