Not my usual fare in historical romances
I will warn you before I go further, fair-weathered Readers, that this book is definitely NOT of the sweet and innocent sort with a few smoldering scenes. I was not prepared for in the flesh and all its risqué business. Beyond all the bedroom activity, the remaining story was not terribly noteworthy as far as the development of main characters and their romance goes. Romances are like emotional rollercoasters that have to have enough charm and wit to make me want to hop into the front car and cling onto dear life for the frills, thrills, and chills. in the flesh did not do that for me. The first chapter or so seemed promising that I wanted to give the characters a chance to prove themselves, but Beatrice and Edmund never demonstrated enough spark. Perhaps I spent too much time in Edmund’s head and could not get past his chauvinistic obsession with owning Beatrice for her body. Sometimes diving into the male brain may be a bad thing, and I think this worked against what in the flesh may have been trying to establish with its romantic couple.
