Amazing At It's Peaks; Dull At It's Lows - Typical Hans Zimmer

I had to buy this score right after watching Inception for the millionth time in the DVD release (it's been out for less then a week). This is an excellent score to accompany a movie as Cerebral as Inception. The score is spread out through several ideas and instead of recalling themes or motifs, the album almost seems to recall emotions. The highlights include the powerful bass trombones on "Dream Is Collapsing" and "528491." The score brings nothing new though. Zimmer is an impressive composer and writes some really powerful cues for this film, but like every score of his, some of the tracks just seem to be filler and really don't grab the attention of the listener. This is especially apparent in some of the longer cues such as "Waiting for a Train" and "Old Souls." Overall, I would recommend purchase of this score for any fan of contemporary film music. The score is much easier to listen to than the last Zimmer/Nolan collaboration, which is The Dark Knight (that film was also co-scored by James Newton Howard)It makes for an interesting listen and yet another triumph for the Zimmer/Nolan team.
