After moving home from a life in Ethiopia, my whole world was shattered. Nothing was the same - not the grocery store, not the streets, not my relationships. Everything I encountered was seen through a new filter. But nothing was changed more than my understanding of and relationship with my faith. Reading Interrupted, it was like Jen Hatmaker was reading my mind and understanding my heart for Christ. Her clever, witty, and raw writing style put to paper what I have begun to understand more and more - that our lives as Christians - true followers of Christ - need be based on nothing more than our service to the least of these.
But for those who are not moving home from a life-altering experience in Africa, her words will ring just as true. Jen's down to earth style and very real perspective make the book easily accessible and a great read. The book is funny, emotional, engaging, and truly inspiring for lifelong Christians, new converts, and skeptics alike.

Warning! The reading of this book may change you for good, forever!

"For the least of these" and "the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" are biblical quotes that seemed glossed over in many well-meaning churches. "Let me write a check for the poor, but I don't want to get dirty," has been the sickness of suburban America for too long.
This is a story of a family who put their hand to, what their heart and soul were prompting. They listened and obeyed and God is blessing them in ways you cannot explain away.
Quick to read and heart pounding out of my chest type changes going on in me. This book helps one to understand her mission and the foundation under many of her blog posts. (even the funny ones)

Funny, sarcastic (in the best of ways), real . . . and she "gets it." That's Jen Hatmaker

Having her everyday I'm-an-average-American-Christian-and-very-comfortable life interrupted by God rocked Jen Hatmaker's world, and if you read her book on the experience, it just might rock yours. Hatmaker gives readers a raw, gut-honest -- and sometimes "bustin' a gut" -- account of her journey from the comfort of her nice suburban we've-got-it-made-in-the-shade pastor's wife lifestyle to a place that, at least at first, was definitely out of her comfort zone but that became the place she most wanted to be: Smack-dab in the middle of God's plan for His church, His body, His bride. And she did it barefoot, no less! (For the scoop on that, you'll have to read her story.) Her conversational writing style and short chapters make it an easy read . . . unless you engage your heart. Once you do that -- open yourself up to what she's saying -- if you're not careful, you might just find yourself also pouring over the many resources and "influential writings" she references at the end of each chapter, and, ultimately, discover your own longing for a God-interruption. At least I pray so.
