Interesting read but not my type of book
I showed my sister the book right after I started reading it. She mentioned the main character is the author who wrote Willy Wanka and the Chocolate Factory. Strange I thought. I read books about World War II and this book has a lot to do with World War II but more of a biography of a social spy. Although his life is interesting and he surely went to parties with the rich and famous and stayed at Hyde Park as a guest of Mrs. Roosevelt, I guess I should stick to reading more battle related war stories. But, if you like name dropping and high society stuff by all means read on.

Light Weight Affair
While not hating this book as the two previous reviewers did(I was able to finish it), I did find the book gossipy and chatty. Readers will find alot of familiar names dropped in connection with Mr. Dahl, but will find that most of these are only touched upon briefly before moving on to some other topic. The two exceptions are V.P. Henry Wallace and Dahl's apparent mentor, Charles Marsh with whom the author spends alot of time in connection with Dahl's Washington dealings. By the end of the book I knew that this future famous author had alot of high powered connections, had been to bed with alot of different women, but still had little idea what he and his group were spying on,(if they were in fact spying). Possibly a more enlightening subject in different hands.

The "Irregulars" Don't waist your time.
This book has some interesting information; too bad it is written so poorly. Could I do better, probaly not, but I am not a professional author. I have taught accounting for over 30 years, and by comparison the accounting books from which I teach are excisting and interesting.

Booze, sex and espionage--written for a 'G' rating!
This book did not live up to its hype. The author did a poor job of explaining the historical context of the setting. Why did the British mistrust Henry Wallace? ( I had to resort to Google to figure it out.) She name drops constantly, but the reader never really feels any insight into any of the individuals discussed. Although there is an abundance of sexual liasons, this book makes them all sound dull!

This book makes one wonder if America is being manipulated today by their allies??? A wonderful discussion topic, but most readers will find the book too dull to finish. -
