Sophomore Slump Plagues Second Release
In 1996, Gary Allan's first record, ''Used Heart For Sale'' mixed contemporary ballads with Western Swing. On his second album, ''It Would Be You'', Allan forsakes the latter music all together in favor of the tepid balladry that seems to have so much crossover appeal. With a noted exception of the gorgeous ''I Ain't Running Yet'' and a two-steppin' ''Red Lips, Blue Eyes'', this release sinks beneath a morass of sentimentality that even Allan's talent cannot save. Was this review helpful?
