Hilarious!
As a 6th grade teacher in a public school, I thought Mrs. Mimi hit the nail on the head as she described the pitfalls of teaching along with the soul-boosting rewards we receive. She illuminates the "nonsense" and "time-wasters" we deal with as teachers along with the reasons we continue to endure them. Her humorous and sarcastic take on the life of a teacher from September (August, really) to June makes this book such a page-turner. I loved it so much that I passed it along to some of my colleagues and bought copies as gifts for friends that are also in the teaching profession. I highly recommend this book.

days in the life of a 2nd grade teacher in Harlem,
culled from her blogs: many rants against the non-teaching bureaucracy of New York schools, many cute anecdotes about her dear little students, but very little about what she was actually teaching. Written in sassy colloquial language that fit a blog better than a book, but an easy read. If you want an inkling of the thoughts in the head of a young idealistic teacher 'in the trenches' this may be it.

Laughed my a** off!
Mrs. Mimi's book is hilarious. As a former NY City public teacher turned sweltering hot teacher in Florida, I can really relate to EVERY story. "Outsiders" really have no idea what goes on along with the ridiculous things that happen on a day to day occurance. This book is LOL funny! I recommended it to all of my "teacher friends" already! And to the other "reviewer"...all I have to say is...what did you think Mrs. Mimi meant when she said KAPLAN APPROACHED HER ON TURNING HER BLOG INTO A BOOK! Come On!!!

Skip it if you read the blog...
I was so excited to get Mrs. Mimi's book!! Then, after reading it, I feel a bit let down. I LOVE LOVE her blog and read it frequently, but unfortunately the book had too many similar stories. I've read them already and I wanted something more, and I was willing to pay money for it! Total bummer. I was also hoping for more of a flowing story, not blog postings seemingly stuck into a book without good connections.
I will always be a fan and I will keep reading the blog (yes, it's that good) but I wouldn't tell a friend to buy this book.0 out of 1 people found this review helpful.
