As a reader of `serious literature only¿, I read this book only after having met the author at a conference. Karen is a truly exceptional storyteller with a unique voice, engaging us in the antics of Ivy on every page. This book offers a mature, humorous look at relationships, life transition and moral choice. I could not put it down. I laughed so long and so loudly that my family called my physician to see if I was on some new medication. I couldn't catch my breath long enough to tell them that I had unexpectedly 'struck (reader's) gold' simply by turning a page in this book. Please, Karen, give us some more!

Trying to hard

The book starts ok enough but goes into the sublime and ridiculous. Can you fit anymore sex, death, power and money in a story.Trashy

    Delightful and Entertaining

A delightful book to enjoy on a long flight. I picked this book up looking for light entertainment and couldn't put it down. It was engaging and funny - and reminded me of my own children's admissions to private school - although nothing to this degree! It is one of those books that just makes you laugh out loud. Wonderfully entertaining.

    Funny and Interesting

I began the book expecting a nice, light, amusing story about rich people and private school kindergarten. I couldn¿t put the book down as I experienced Ivy¿s world of ethical paradoxes. It is a story of reality often too weird to not be true. The pace is perfect and continues evenly start to finish. I was never bored. The characters are well developed and I had a good sense of their look and voice; Ivy¿s perspective is refreshingly honest and hopeful. It was hard not to laugh out loud at the outcomes of unpredictable series of events. It was fun escaping into Ivy¿s madcap world, even if for a short while.

    What a page turner!

With laugh-out-loud moments and a fun heroine, this is a great read. It's quick, engaging, and has just the right number of serious moments to be more than just a piece of fluff. This is a must-read book!

This fun, satire will make you laugh

You don't have to live in New York City to appreciate the Ivy Chronicles. Here's a novel that takes a good look and a good laugh at parents who act like 5-year olds when it comes to getting their children into private school. It's all about status, of course, and the dreams we project upon our children. I particularly enjoyed Ivy's 'never give up' atttitude after she loses everything, including her husband. The one thing she doens't lose is her sense of humor! This is a fun read, but it also makes you think in a very substantive way about the things that matter most in life. A must read for parents.

    Fantastic Fast Read!

I bought this book on a Monday afternoon and finished it on my subway ride to work Tuesday morning. I thought it was terrific -the narrative was engaging, the plot full of unexpected twists and the characters either people I'd like to have over for dinner or analyze over lunch.

The Ivy Chronicles is a fun, fascinating look into a different world. Karen Quinn writes with an expert satirical touch, and takes the reader on an enjoyable excursion that results in a satisfying ending.

    Spot-On!

This book is marvelous if you are at all privy to the antics of the Manhattanite species and/or their little spawns. Or if you're at all intrigued by the idea of such a thing. Karen Quinn is spot-on specific and this book is HILARIOUS!
