    My New Favorite Series

Johannes Cabal is back and this time in a high adventure mystery. Jonathan L. Howard's fantastic character gets a lot more developement in the follow up to his debut novel Johannes Cabal the Necromancer. This time we find our titular necromancer on the run from the government while escaping on an airship. There is a mystery aboard and only the razor sharp mind of Mr. Cabal can solve it.

What impresses me most about this series is how different the first and second books truly are. The first book is a bit of a horror comedy, where the main character is a monster who you actually find yourself rooting for. In this follow up novel, the same main character is already established and thrown into a setting that has hints of so many other genres not remotely touched upon in the debut novel (i.e. Adventure, Steam Punk, Mystery). Cabal himself gets much more character developement here in book 2 and you really get to see what goes through his head when he reacts with other people. It almost reminds me of Dexter Morgan with a mystical twist. A monster in a mask whose mind acts on a completely different level than the rest of the world.
I strongly recommend this book. The cover art is some of the best I have ever seen.

Political thriller in a steampunk world

Sherlock Holmes meets steampunk, with a dash of magic.

    Great read

While this may take a different path than the first novel, I still loved it just as much. It feels like Sherlock Holmes if he was even more self serving.
