Probably my all-time favorite

Like the headline says, probably one of my favorite all-time books. I felt like I had a relationship with the characters, and literally cried when it ended. Felt like a horrible break-up. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Jubilee starts off wonderfully, but the last two parts lose momentum. The character of Vyry is amazingly powerful, but she is almost too perfect to be real. Her optimism and willingness to move forward are commendable, but the reader is left wondering about residual anger and resentment that could understandably arise from being enslaved since childhood. The chapters are often interrupted by historical information. While this adds validity to the story, it often interrupts the action, and some of the facts are incorrect. Overall, Jubilee is worth reading. It presents a very strong female character, and strong women are typically underrepresented in novels.

    good reading

This book is a great book and the author did a great job putting in the book with the story. I could not put it down. I felt sorry for Vvry and what she had to go through back in those times. I read this book 4 different times in high school and not because it was assigned to me I had heard it through word of mouth.. Even after 8 years of not reading it I still can place myself where the story took place.. I wish all Jr. and High schools students had to read and do a report on it. Especially for Black History Month...

    READ ALL ABOUT IT

This book opens up ones insight to the real struggles of our ancestors. You feel their pain and sufffering. I finally understand, as close as one possibly can, what it was actually like to be a slave!!! Your life had no value. Your only existence was to honor another race, another group of people. You were a non-human in the eyes of the white race. In order for America to come to a true realization of the impact slavery made on a race of people, I strongly feel this book should be mandatory in every junior and high school. We as a country need to start some serious discussions around the price one group had to pay and is still paying for another group to enjoy the economic harvest of this great country. I take pride in the FACT that we, us, our ancestors, helped make this country great. I think it is pass time for America to pay up.
