I wasn't sure what to expect from Just My Game as I assumed it would be just another book by an athlete who felt the need to have a book. After reading Grilli's story, however, I found him to be a likeable guy who clearly loves the game, his father and his family. The game of baseball lacks role models these days. After reading Just My Game, I feel like Grilli is someone that I would want my child to emulate. He's not perfect, he's human. Made mistakes and learned from them. I feel the book exhibits that things haven't always come as easy for him as he had hoped they would but he accepts that and is now enjoying his success. Reminds me of a modern day Roy Hobbs or perhaps more accurately his story reminds me a lot of For The Love of the Game.

A book about perseverance that's also inspirational. Most people see the life of an athlete as glamorous, and it often is. However, we fail to understand the grind that it can be, as well as the sacrifices one might make in being away from family for extended periods. Jason helps us see that through his eyes. It's also interesting to hear how grateful he is for his opportunities. I hope he continues to find success as he's had to overcome more than his fair share of setbacks. Was this review helpful?
