Haunting Tale
While attending a medical seminar in Istanbul, Meredith Fitzgerald, an engaged, beautiful, blonde, young lady is duped by her taxi driver in the old, city bazaars. Intent on spending one last day exploring Istanbul before leaving for India, to sprinkle her father's ashes in the Ganges, she allows her guard down in the market environment. Instead of engaging in a tourist-style adventure she finds her tea laced with choral hydrate. Having been slipped a Mickey she slips into unconsciousness. When she awakens she finds herself naked, imprisoned in a dark room and realizes she has been raped.

Her feats mount as she realizes she has been taken prisoner by a sex-trade trafficker who, along with his American companion and bodyguards, conspire to move her to Mumbai, India. Fitzgerald gives up hope of being found, knowing her fiancé, Paul, will be searching in Turkey, not across the border in India, for her.
By making herself personal physician to Mrs. Pawar, Fitzgerald tries to curry favor and to place her in a situation where she can escape, not just from the ritual daily raping from her immediate kidnapper, but from under the noses of her Indian task-masters.
An on-the edge-of-your-seat, unforgettable adventure that takes us to the edge of madness and back and shows that with perseverance, and a never-say-die attitude, even the most evil circumstances can be triumphed over -

Journey Into the Center of the Human Soul
I am the co host of City Enlightenment on Blog Talk Radio. When I saw the topic for the show, Sex Slavery with Nancy Deville, I gasped. I prayed. How was I going to do an interview about a topic which touched a nerve deep in my soul? I told myself I was not going to read the book but would do research on her website to do the best interview I possibly could 'under the circumstances'. The show was received with critical acclaim by our listeners as one of our best ever and since we both live in Boston, we met in person. Nancy gave me a copy of the book to read. I swallowed hard and realized that nothing happens by accident. I was totally unprepared for the healing experience of both interviewing Nancy and reading her first novel, "Karma". I am a survivor of childhood abuse in every way imaginable. Nancy's depiction of Meredith Fitzgerald and telling the story from her perspective triggered a cascade of healing thoughts and feelings. The graphic depictions she offers of the sex slave trade blurred into the background as I was riveted to Meredith's character wondering how and if she would survive both physically and psychologically. Nancy takes a journey into the human soul of all of her characters - protagonist and antagonist and as a former social worker I can attest to the accuracy of the portrayal.

I write poetry and Nancy and Karma have inspired me to write the following:
Darien Marshall and I were blessed to have Nancy Deville as a guest on City Enlightenment. She talked about Sexual Slavery and Human Trafficking in the context of her book, "Karma" - a fictional journey of a woman's doctor into the world of sexual slavery. As part of the show, the topic of childhood sexual abuse came up and I shared that I am a survivor of sexual abuse. I was stunned to learn that one out of every 3 women globally has experienced some form of abuse, I had been watching the transformation during the change of seasons of the Reservoir near my home where I run . And as so often happens in the heart of a poet, everything coincided to inspire me to write the poem:
Reservoir Transformation
The frozen earth, the hardened ground, yet promise heart now holds
The path surrounds the Reservoir, transforming life unfolds.
As Reservoir returns to life, ice layers melt away
Numbing fear once coating shame was never meant to stay.
Each step moves toward the future, the moment crystal clear
Reflected in the sea of blue, God's Presence always near.
The warming breath of Spring time, no greater Love than this
Heart dancing free & spirit soars with God I find my bliss.
Brace yourself for an incredible journey into a world of psychological intrigue, moving plot and an opportunity to view 'Karma' in a new light.
