    Too Long

I thought this book's premise sounded interesting but it was very long, over 900 pages, and I got bored after the first few chapters. The historical anachronisms in the dialog pulled me out of the story and there was a lot of telling how characters felt instead of just showing through actions and words. I found myself skimming the bulk of the book.

I think I might enjoy this story more if it was tightened up and cut down in length. Stlye-wise, it reminded me of those epic early 80's romances. It even has a couple plot similarities with "Ashes In The Wind" by Kathleen Woodiwiss...the heroine has to escape the villian by marrying the hero and moving to the Minnesota wilderness and a mute girl begins to speak after she finds the heroine, with whom she has bonded, in danger after the villain shows up in Minnesota.

Also, be warned, there are two rape scenes depicted in the story and one is quite brutal.

    Ughh!!!

When will this book end! I love the free books B&N offer. I appreciate it even more when it's actually a full length novel and not a novella. I just don't think you have to go on and on to make a good book.
