Kekkaishi will give you a unique look at Japanese Myths and Monsters
Kekkaishi means "barrier master" and the two main characters are from rival families each claiming that they're the rightful heirs to the technique. They protect a sacred land called Karasumori, which with all the urban developement, has happened to have a school built right on top of it. Kekkaishi keeps you guessing on who the villians actually are. Normally you can't hold it against the monsters that find their way to the site and each demon is unique, especially to American monsters. In this volume the monster is a butterfly. I know, that sounds lame... but when it starts rapidly multiplying and causing the students in school (who can't see them by the way) to get sick and/or hear strange things, all the kekkaishis have to work together to clear them out without anyone getting hurt and finding out their secret. Not to mention the Prophecy of Doom that the butterflies were actually suppose to warn of...Yellow Tanabe's art is good, but it's the unusual perspectives that make it really eye catching. Was this review helpful?
