I probably shouldn’t be writing this so soon after finishing the book, because my emotions are highest, but I don’t care. I need to get all of these thoughts out before I forget them.
Joclyn doesn’t know much about a mark she has right below her ear, just that it changed everything. It changed her dad—causing him to leave them—and it changed herself, making her become a girl who hides and tries not to be noticed.
And Joclyn has a friend. Her very best friend, Ryland. Ryland has secrets—very, very dark ones. Secrets that are intertwined with Joclyn.
Ryland has been through a lot, some might even say too much. But I admired him (and quite honestly I was in awe of how he kept it together after finding out what he’d been through) and I steadily grew to really like him. He was one of my favorite characters.
Joclyn is stubborn. All throughout this book, she’s stubborn. But I liked that when the secrets were revealed, she accepted them and didn’t make too big of a deal at saying stuff like “No, this can’t be possible,” because it is and she knows it. I grew to really like her too, and found myself truly understanding what she was going through. Her reactions were believable, which is always something I love reading in paranormal books.
The plot. Oh, the plot. It was brilliant. The secrets, the hints, the language! I absolutely loved it all. The world and the language seemed really well thought out, which is always a fantastic plus. I also loved how each piece of information was realistically given to us, there was no “let me bombard you with all of this information.”
And the secondary characters were fantastic as well! Ilyan and Wyn especially (although I feel as if Ovailia has reasons for her actions). I really enjoyed reading about them, though Ilyan intrigues me as well.
But this book had something that I completely love—if it’s done right: true love. Soul mates. A pure bond between two people. Or, as this book puts it, a Zêlství (though technically that means something slightly different, but I just wanted to use the beautiful words that the author created). And this was definitely done right.
The beginning of the book, though I know was necessary, was a bit frustrating. All of the secrets surrounding Jos, and though I knew something was happening I didn’t know what. I just wanted everyone to come out with it, but nooooo, let’s just not say anything, shall we?
Finally when things are revealed is when things start to get good. Or rather, should I say great? At that point you couldn’t pull me away from the book, I was glued. I also might have snapped a little at my family members for interrupting me. Whoops. But the book got so addicting, I kept just reading and flipping pages to see what was going to happen next; how they were going to succeed; how things would get better.
But, this is a series. And as we all know, not everything gets resolved in the first book of the series. The book ended up with a cliffhanger, yes, but it also gave us a little bit of hope. (Though the last sentence killed me. Gah!)
I most definitely recommend this book for people who want angst, action, true love, magic, and series, for I most definitely will not stop at this book. (Read: I am quickly going to get the next book because I HAVE TO.)

I just loved this book! In Kiss Of Fire, I immediately fell in love with Ryland and Joclyn, got completely sucked in the story and loved it till the end. The concept of this story is amazing. The twists thrilling. And, the romance so perfect and bittersweet.
Joclyn is different from most main characters and I loved her for it. I love how she liked to ride a long board around. I like how she prefers to be invisible, how even though she's trying to hide her scar it's more than that. She likes to be herself and doesn't want to stand out in a crowd. She's strong and brave, and I adored her character. Her only tick, of the people she cares most for, is Ryland. Ryland LaRue who is so opposite of her. Ryland is filthy rich. One hundred and a million percent hot with stunning blue eyes. Goes to an all boys school. And yet, he is best friends with Joclyn. As you watch their relationship you can see how close they are. How much Ryland protects Joclyn and would do anything for her. I fell head over heels with Ryland... I just love that boy so dang much. I want a future for these two! Totally Joclyn + Ryland ship here!
Other than Ryland and Joclyn there are other characters to love like Wyn and Ilyan. Wyn is such a great and outgoing friend. Then there's Ilyan, who I actually really, really liked. And no one hit me for saying this because I AM Team Ryland till the end, but I wouldn't mind if something were to happen between Ilyan and Joclyn because I think he's a good guy.
The ending is a killer. How can you make us fall so deeply for a character then take it away? Believe me when I say I was definitely hoping for a different ending but alas, it just gives me something to hope for in the next four books! I'm hoping its resolved before the final book, but I'll just have to read on and find out! Loved the world, the concept, all of the characters (good and bad), and just everything about this story! On to the next one!

*I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review* I don't like spoilers in reviews so I never explain scenes, just how I felt :]
Kiss of Fire is a wonderful story that will completely capture you in the prologue, and won't even let you go after you finish the last word. It was such a captivating story with amazing characters that kept building.
There is a little bit of everything and I am so thrilled that I still have 3 more books to share in this world. Rebecca Ethington's rich and colorful world that she created for this series will leave you reaching for more.
The magic development and battle scenes are so captivating and wonderfully written, it was so easy to picture It happening(LOVE when authors can do this for me).
All the scenes with Ryland & Jocelyn are my absolute favorite though! Childhood friends always hold a special place in my heart<3
I highly recommend this book, you wont be disappointed.
Cheers Rebecca and thank you again for the chance to experience this world!

One of the best books I've ever read. It has easily become one of my favorites. You are drawn in from the very beginning. The magical story leaves you guessing til the very last page. I highly recommend reading this book and am counting down til the next is released. I predict it will be the next big series.

I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Since that ultra-famous lightning bolt scar burst onto the scene, I have gravitated to all things witchy, so when I read the description of this book, it summoned me as surely as an accio spell. But when I dove in, I began to see that outsider-turned-chosen-one pattern and wondered if this one was going to be another rip off as transparent as a threadbare Hogwart’s robe, and while there are some basic similarities (the scar, the destined destroyer, the orphan), I couldn’t have been more mistaken.
The storyline is completely unique to anything I’ve read. Ethington has woven a complex world into the tapestry of the ordinary without managing to overload the reader with too much, too fast. We actually get to know the protagonist before we learn of her abilities and her would-be savior status. Nothing is more annoying than being bombarded with characters (all with freaky names) and their random abilities while still trying to figure out the main character’s emotional damage. I love that Joclyn was insecure and wanted to hide—like 90% of all teenage girls—though I wanted to strangle her on occasion with that dang ruby necklace for this exact trait. I love that she stood up to the mean girl but only because she didn’t have a choice. But the thing I love the most is that Joclyn grows; she becomes stronger and more self-assured as the novel progresses. Also, the love story between Joclyn and Ryland is distinct in that he pursues her, and she must push him away.
My only complaint is with the missing father complication. We don’t ever really “see” him, and the letter he sends Joclyn just seemed too contrived. The rest of the plot is well-constructed, but this father thing seems a little deus ex machina.

Can't put it down!
Be ready to for a well written story with characters that will steal your heart from beginning to the end! Their friendship, their love and an awful dad capable of despicable things. Can't wait to read the next one!

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a new and unique paranormal world inside this story. I thought the characters were great and couldn’t wait to see what happened with them. It has everything: action, adventure, romance, and so much more; you really can’t ask for much more? This one will definitely be recommended by me. I can’t wait to read the next one.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

First off, let me just make this clear: I rarely, if ever, cry. This book made me cry so much when Ryland was taken away from Joclyn. I love the way Ryland and Joclyn are. Ry just totally loves her to death, but his father would prefer it if she was dead. I smiled so much when they were together and then couldn't stop crying at the end. I can't wait to read the second book! I would highly recommend this book to anyone who ahsn't read it.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Now i believe i have made a review before dor the very first rime i read it and now, after about a year, i decided to read it again. This is ome pf the best freaking books EVER so beware. So it all starts with Joclyn. Shes basicly a sixteen year old wallflower with insecurity issues, even though almost EVERY SINGLE guy in the book tells her shes gorgeous and so beautiful. Well when she was five, she got bit by this buggy looking thing, and went into a coma for lik 6 freaking months. Well her dad goes completely wacko and leaves ' trying to find out more about her scar.' He was creepily superstitious. Anyhow her mom moves and she gets a job from Edmund LaRue. Completely HOT name; totally sick, twisted old guy about 1,200 yrs old. Jos befriends the bosses son Ryland LaRue. HOT name, hot guy who, sadly, loves the gogeous Jos. Man Y cant guys in rral life be as good as stories?! Well Ry finds ou about her mark and gets crazy because he knows what it means. It means she got mad skillz in magic and stuff. Well Edmund is trying to get into Rys brain all the while, Jos has to.lean to use her powers, and only learn little, in about a week though i though she did good. They hav this whole rescue plan figured out and theyre going to try to rescue him. Edmund is super, lik ridulously old abd powerful, so it surprises many that he can with stand so long without giving in, but his lov for Jos never ebs. In fact it burns white hot...lik an Ember(hahaha! I just made a referance to the NEXT BOOK). The ending is si expected, yet not at the same time. I was all lik "NONONONOOOOO" and i think u Fantasy fans will lik this. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

It took me a while, but it was a good read!
First, let me just say, really it took me around 130 pages before I was actually enjoying the book. I came so close to quitting. I was really frustrated by the constant contradictions and I felt like the author was just doing a really poor writing job. Joclyn's just a walking contradiction. She has feelings for her best friend and wants to kiss him but thinks he's crazy when he starts showing feelings for her because she's never wants a relationship with him. She's mad at someone/she scared of someone, all within a breath. I don't know...I found it badly done and annoying to read. Don't let these annoyances keep you from reading this the whole way through! Like I said before, right around 130 pages in, the story really picks up and gets so much better. I enjoyed the characters, the story has good plot movement after that bad beginning, and I really like the magical aspect that's going on. Now I'm half way through the third book and can't wait for the fourth! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
