Lara Adrian has created an alien race that has been living with humans for thousands of years. The first generation of these creatures, the Ancients, crash landed on earth. They were from a dark distant planet. In order to survive, they fed on the blood of humans. Their hunger, so savage, wiped out an entire populations of humans. In rare instances, these ancients would successfully breed with human females. These females were rare and called Breedmates.
Lucan Thorne, the main character in the first book of The Midnight Breed Series, was sired by one of these Ancients. He leads a group of warrior vampires called the Breed in order to protect their race and as well as the human race from Rogues, vampires who surrendered to the insanity of bloodlust.
When Gabrielle Maxwell witnesses a band of Rogues savagely murder a human, she was pulled in Lucan's world. Although he is sworn to protect, Gabrielle causes him to lose control - something that is dangerous for an Ancient descendant. Little did he realize, losing control was only the beginning. Gabrielle was getting ready to change his life forever.
This was a book I was sad to see end. Thankfully, there are six more in this series with the seventh out at the end of 2009. One of the highlights is how Lara Adrian focuses solely on Lucan and Gabrielle, making them a priority of the story. Nowadays, paranormal romance authors are having love blossom not only between the hero and the heroine, but another couple as well. I realize this is a set up for the next book, but it's a turnoff for me. This author's story telling skills are so engrossing, I don't care who the next main characters are. I just want to read more. The story might not be classified as original, but it's solid and the author's writing style is powerfully passionate.

Too sexual, didn't read well, alien vampires

This book was too sexual for me. I read up to chapter 7 and put the book down for good. I like reading romance novels, but this was just...very different. Her wording was very blunt about things, and just didn't read well. I also didn't like that she made her vampires aliens. I'm not really into the science fiction thing.

    Had potential...

I wanted to like this book but the writing was lacking and there was too much cheese for me. I read romance and erotica so that wasn't the cheesy part. Others compared it to J. R. Ward's series which I guess is true based on plot (similar) but these vamps can heal without stitches and the cheese... The alien thing wasn't a focus nor was it annoying to me. I prefer the charactors to tell the story and this book was told a lot in the 3rd person which truely got under my skin! I have just read other books that were much better.

If you like JR Ward you'll like Lara Adrian

I've read the intire Brotherhood series and loved them all. When I read JR Ward's review on this author's work I knew it had of been "read" worthy. Kiss of Midnight is a good starter book for this series. Try it out you wont be disappointed

It was Okay...Remind me too much of the black dagger brotherhood by JR Ward

It was okay..while i was reading it, it reminded me too much of the black dagger brotherhood...it was too similar thats what i didnt like it much besides that it was okay. if you like romance and vampires then you will probably like it or atleast think its not bad.

    Good Read

It was a good read but I got tired of the constant back and forth Lucan's feeings were for Gabby.

After just finishing "Midnight Kiss", I have to say I

After just finishing "Midnight Kiss", I have to say I did enjoyed. I was invested to know what would happen to the main characters. I will continue with book series #2. However, I will say there are some subtle similarities to the BDB "Lover Mine". Also, the romantic and love scenes were forced sometimes, added with dash of cheesiness. Hoping the next book gets better.

    An OK read...

So I am a Vampire book fanatic..therefore when i see a vampire series i need to read it. This is the first of the series and i was pretty disappointed. It was an ok book, but i just found it lacking. I agree with the other person who commented that its somewhat of a knockoff of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. The BDB series is WAY better though. I think my problem with this book is that its characters just lacked some personality...and this book has very little comedy. Not that i expected it to be a comedic book, its just there was very little sarcasm or joking among characters so it was just too serious. Anyways it was still an ok book and i will probably read the rest of the series.

Loved the titles of all the series

So far I have all of them and each story line was basically the same as far as the Breed Vampire goes but with a interesting twist on each. I guess, if I went each time to buy the next in series, I must have like it better than I thought....huh???

Better than I thought it was going to be

Vampire warriors fighting war against rogue vampires with love interest in the form of Breedmates. The writing was a little campy in lots of spots but over all I found it an enjoyable read.

can NOT get interested in this book

im reading this book right now and im on page 87 and i just CANT get interested. i keep trying to force myself to keep reading. it better get better or this book is going out of here. its sorta of almost copying JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. BTW, that series will capture you a lot better and faster than this book. If this book dont get better its going to Edward McKays!

    another vampire series

I've read a lot of vampire-themed books and this novel is ok, but lacking a little in originality. Still, if you want something to read that isn't boring or too challenging (like for the beach or a rainy day), this book is great.
