Maybe it's from all those math&science classes, but I could not get past the fantasy to enjoy the love story. All the strange landscapes and wierd creatures were just distracting. For example, Merewyn having motherly feelings towards a rock that was to grow up to be a gargoyle? What kind of nonsense is that? And what was the point of the triplets? How did they advance the storyline? And Blaise droning on for pages about Varian's personal history...I liked Blaise in 'Sword of Darkness' but not in this book. I was sort of hoping that Blaise would persue Merewyn and set up a conflict between himself and Varian-now that would have been an interesting turn! I've been reading MacGregors's books in order and I think this was really the worst. Sorry, but it's my opinion.

Enjoyed the twist on the Ragnel legend

There's really not a dime's worth of difference between MacGreagor's Knights and Kenyon's Dark Hunters--and I'm not complaining a bit. I like the twist on the Arthurian legends in the MacGregor set. Ragnel's story (for those of you who remember her encounter with Gawain from English Lit classes) has always been one of my favorite of the Arthurian tales. I like the twist on that story in this novel: 1) How much =does= appearance matter? 2) What makes a 'very perfect, gentle knight'? I was glad to see Blaise as a main character. I love Varian and Merewyn's interaction and their ability to 'see' each other. The other thing I enjoy about these novels is that they have powerful villians and that the so-called heros (Lords of Avalon) aren't always terribly heroic. I hope we get to see more of Nariska. It's a fun series. I'm looking forward to reading more of them.
